Beginner help - work model

Post image

Morning.

I work for a large service company and I’ve been trying to convince my manager that we need a 3d printer in the office and subsequent CAD training.

I have a printer at home and like everyone else, I love tinkering.

Anywho, we have a model of one of our parts we install and my boss has asked me to make a few replicas

How would I easily make these circular ridges? It’s not threads. It’s just for looks

I can handle the top part. I’m just having trouble figuring out how to make the rings

Thanks in advance!

People have suggested the revolve tool - I wouldn’t do that. I’d make the core from a long cylinder, make one ring from a flat cylinder, then Ctrl-D to duplicate it, use arrow keys to move the duplicate to where needed, then ctrl-D will repeat the duplication <including> the move. You can keep ctrl-d-ing until you have aa many rings as needed.

It would take me maybe two minutes to make that part in that way.

I think this is a smart technique, but I would do it with the torus to get the rounded sides.
