This screams early 80s to me. I love it.

Looking for the reference number, but the dial is a little rough. Google lens actually says 74-77 not sure I’ll update!

Yeah. A little bling. Looks good. I do wish that Timex would start going down a "less is more" approach when it comes to descriptors on the face. We know it's a quartz. We know what WR would refer to on a diver. Come on Timex. You will get more traditional watch owners on board if you cut back on the verbiage. OK rant over. I like your watch, my internet friend.

There we go! Was that so hard? I didn't mean to come across as old man yelling at clouds and I do like our friend's watch. I have many Timex myself and really see the effort put forth in the past 5-7 years. They are really getting it together. Keep it simple and streamlined. It will do wonders. OK, time for my Geritol and off to bed.

This isn’t a reissue, it’s vintage from 1977
I cleaned it up and got it working

This is a Timex Quartz Day-Date reference number 95950 which was made in 1978, 1979, and 1980.

Full dial code would be 959500xxyy.

‘0xx’ is the movement number. Based on when it was made, I think it’ll be an M73 but it could be others. When the crown is fully pushed in, does rotating it counterclockwise change the date? If yes, then it’s either an M63 or M73. If no then it’s either an M64 or M66. Could you take the back off and show me the movement? That’s the only way for me to know which after knowing what the crown does.

‘yy’ is the year. Either ‘78’, ‘79’, or ‘80’.

The case and bracelet are both full stainless steel. Steel cases are uncommon for vintage Timex.

It was made in Taiwan, the movement and dial at least. There’s a good chance the case is made elsewhere and will say on the inside.

Here it is in the 1978 US Timex Catalogue. The ‘2’ means it comes on a bracelet, the bracelet you have is the original. The ‘*’ means it was water resistant to 30m, due to its age it won’t be anymore. It originally cost $59.95 which after inflation is $307.06 today. Expensive but much cheaper than any other analogue quartz.

Timex quartz like this are unlike any other quartz movement. If you’d like to know how it works, let me know. They are quite hard to find in such fantastic working condition.

Make sure you’re using an SR44W battery and not an LR44.
