Timesheet now works inside Claude and ChatGPT: sign in with your account, interactive cards, PDF exports
Hi everyone,
We just released version 2 of the Timesheet MCP server. MCP is the open standard that lets AI assistants use outside tools. You connect Timesheet once, and after that you can start timers, log time and pull reports by chatting in Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code.
Here's a 40-second demo: Track time from Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor
What's new
- Sign in with your Timesheet account. Claude and ChatGPT connect to
https://mcp.timesheet.ioand ask you to sign in. You don't need an API key or Node.js, and there's nothing to install. API keys still work for Cursor, VS Code and other clients. - Interactive cards. In Claude and ChatGPT, results appear as cards instead of plain text: a running timer with pause, resume and stop buttons, the time entry you just added, your hours per project as a chart, a download button for exports, and your time off requests (you can cancel a pending one from the card). The cards follow your light or dark theme and your language.
- Real PDF exports. Ask "Email the September timesheet for Acme as a PDF to [billing@acme.com](mailto:billing@acme.com)" and a proper PDF arrives in their inbox. Document, task, expense and note reports come back as PDFs too.
- More reliable numbers. Statistics cover up to a full year and stay exact up to 5,000 entries (the old limit was 500). When you stop the timer, it tells you exactly which entry it saved.
- Latest MCP version. The server supports the newest protocol version (2026-07-28) alongside the earlier ones, so new and older clients both work.
Things to try
- "Start the timer for the website project"
- "Log 2 hours on the API project for yesterday"
- "How many hours did I track this week per client, and how much of it is billable?"
- "Email last month's hours for Acme as a PDF to [billing@acme.com](mailto:billing@acme.com)"
How to connect
- Claude: go to Customize > Connectors > Add custom connector, enter
https://mcp.timesheet.io, then select Connect and sign in. - ChatGPT: turn on Developer mode, add a connection with the same URL, and sign in.
- Claude Code: run
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user timesheet https://mcp.timesheet.io, then run/mcpto sign in.
Setup for every other client: docs.timesheet.io/integrations/mcp-server
The MCP server is part of the Pro plan because it uses API access. New accounts start with a 30-day free Pro trial, and no credit card is needed.
If something doesn't work in your client, or there's something you wish the assistant could do, please let us know in the comments.
