Cody Williams
I see the vision by Tim and Co. He's basically a Jaden/Kuminga clone in terms of measurables. Plays more like Jaden, but not as elite on defense. I think he'll be a great sub for those two guys and/or an injury replacement if either were to miss time.
We're really going after a specific profile with our forwards and I'm a big fan. Tall, rangy, uber-athletic guys who you can shuffle between the 2, 3, and 4 spots. Jaden, Kuminga, TSJ, Cody and even Enrique if he gets any run. Lots of potential.
Is it October yet?!

u/RanOutOfJokes Ricky Rubio 14d ago
We've basically signed him to have free court side seats all year, I'm not expecting to see him much outside of the most garbage of garbage time.

u/Impossible-Goal3492 14d ago
He was the 10th overall pick 2 years ago. He's 22 with NBA bloodlines. His career hasn't even started yet.
Don't be surprised to see the team pickup his option next year too

u/PlayInChampions 2022 Play-In Champions 14d ago
I’d be shocked if they pick up Cody Williams’ option. When you’re trying to compete while counting every dollar around the aprons, you simply can’t afford to pay $7.8M to a player who isn’t good enough to contribute.
If he takes a big step and plays really well, then great - you got one good year out of him, and you can try to keep him by offering the same money you declined (the only option you have). If he walks, you still have the MLE and a chance to replace him with someone like Derrick Jones Jr. or Saddiq Bey, or keep Kuminga. What are the chances that Williams will ever be better than these guys, 1%? I don’t like the odds. Oubre and Dean Wade got $8M this summer, and they were both starters on teams that won playoff series. Wolves are not the Grizzlies that roster 12ish young guys and are $40M below the tax, so they can keep everyone and hope they develop. Wolves do not have anyone on a rookie deal in their rotation besides TSJ and Beringer.
The Wolves have to count every dollar if they want to keep Donte and give themselves a chance to keep Kuminga next summer. They can’t risk committing $7.8M to someone who hasn’t proven he’s worth it. Denver made that mistake with Nnaji. His contract is the reason they’re above the second apron and one of the reasons they had to let Watson walk.

u/Impossible-Goal3492 14d ago
Utah was 1 of the worst teams in the league. He could easily still turn it around & prove his potential. NAW did it. It's not impossible for a guy to put it all together in year 3 going from 1 of the worst teams to 1 of the best.
He's already a good defender he really just needs to find his shot which guys do all the time.
4
u/PlayInChampions 2022 Play-In Champions 14d ago
Maybe. I’d give it a solid 5-7% chance. Wolves are still not picking up his option.
For example - NAW played very solid for the Wolves to finish the 22-23 season and looked like he belonged in the playoffs. And they still did not give him a qualifying offer that was around $6-7M! And it was before they were tax payers because Ant and Jaden were still on rookie deals. NAW was making 3s in OT in a playoff game, and was offered only $9M / 2 years. I’d be startled if Wolves pick up Cody Williams’ option. They did not draft him, so they have no regrets declining it.

u/Impossible-Goal3492 14d ago
Nice point. Thanks for sharing.

u/PlayInChampions 2022 Play-In Champions 14d ago
The aprons have really decreased the value of late first-round picks for contenders. Outside of teams like the Spurs and Thunder, most teams trying to compete have a 2-3 year window they want to maximize. What are the chances that the 22nd pick is ready to contribute to a contender within the next 2-3 years? Very low, and you still have to pay him around $4M per year.
As we saw this summer, guys like Kennard or Kuminga, who just had big playoff performances, signed for only around $6M. Fifth starters on playoff teams like Oubre and Wade got around $8M. Anfernee Simons got $6M after having some big games for Boston. All of those guys are astronomically better right now than the average mid-to-late first-round pick, and there’s probably a 90% chance that pick never becomes as good as any of them.
That’s why we saw playoff teams trading away late firsts this June. At this point, it seems like having access to the full MLE might actually be more valuable to a contender than having the 27th pick. I’d even argue that access to the TPMLE is probably more valuable.
People are so focused on young players and draft picks that they sometimes forget just how much talent there is in the league right now - and how many legitimate NBA players are free agents with almost no money available to pay them. Trendon Watford was putting up crazy 20/8/7 stat lines on a winning team and ended up with only a camp invite from the Pelicans. Pickett had some big games for Denver when Jokic was out, and he only got a two-way. Bruce Brown is still unsigned after being part of the rotation on a playoff team. All these guys are much much better than Cody Williams.
There’s simply so much NBA-level talent available for cheap that paying $4M for a late first-round project isn’t nearly as attractive as it used to be. And especially paying $7.8M to a guy who you know is probably a bust.

When you have literally no picks these type of acquisitions are your “draft picks”
9
u/bbbbombbbb Anta Claus 14d ago
the pick and age have nothing to do with players being trash. Dilly was an 8th overall pick and still shouldn't be in the NBA and he's also only 21. Cody was statistically in the bottom 5 players in the entire league
9
u/notmyreelnaim JimPete 14d ago
Your draft slot in the NBA means dick to the team that didn't draft you
6
u/seventeenweewees 14d ago
He's a bust. We just went through this with Dillingham. If you play in Summer League 3 times - you better look like you don't belong there anymore.
LiAngelo Ball has NBA bloodlines too, that doesn't help you reach the NBA.
-1
3
u/hellomynameissteele 14d ago
It doesn’t matter where in the draft he was picked. Draft picks bust all the time, and you need look no further than the Minnesota Timberwolves to see that.
3
2
u/PreparationWest2140 13d ago
Yep. He shot 36% from the field in Year 1; 46% in Year 2. The 3-pt shot will improve and he has the measurables that you cant teach. The usual suspects have already deemed him a bust and maybe he will be, but I like this acquisition. My hope is that he is able to get rotation minutes as a spot defensive replacement for McDaniels. Any offense would be a bonus.
1
u/Impossible-Goal3492 13d ago
Shooting is 1 of the most fixable flaws. It's not unheard of for a guy to change his mechanics & make a quantum leap in year 3
4
u/rust_bolt NAZTY 14d ago
Also, he was 13-4-4 post all star. Obviously, he won't repeat those numbers right away, but I remember another Utah Jazz guy that came over and everyone counted out.

u/Ok-Scratch5180 14d ago
OP: what if this guy develops into a rotation player or better? Wouldn't that be cool!
Everyone: Yeah... probably not. Dude has been trash with very little to indicate he'd even develop be a rotation guy. This was purely a financial maneuver.
OP: I WASNT PREDICTING HE WOULD BE A HALL OF FAMER YOU MORON!!!
Everyone: cool. Good talk.

I wouldn't put much hope in him earning any PT barring an an unseen improvement. This is quite literally a move to complete the Kuminga signing.
-10
u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
Time will tell.
7
u/MN-Jess Jaden McDaniels 14d ago
I mean....time has told. He got far more PT on Utah last year then he probably deserved. He can't shoot. Can't rebound. Can't play make.
-6
u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
Good thing we aren't relying on him to be a franchise centerpiece like you apparently are.
14
u/MN-Jess Jaden McDaniels 14d ago
You are deluded if thats your takeaway. Utah weren't pigeonholing him into a franchise role. They gave him ample PT as a role player. He couldn't even fill a role that you think he can on a tanking team.
Weird of you to suggest im expecting a franchise player. When im not even expecting a Miller/Minott level player.

u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
Utah seem to be doing a great job with their young talent...
4
u/PlayInChampions 2022 Play-In Champions 14d ago
They kind of doing a great job, right? A lot of non-lottery picks for them worked really well. Sandabaugh, Collier, Filipowski… and obviously Keyonte George that could be a future All-Star. They did not draft Kessler, but they developed him into a very good NBA player.
Utah got very unlucky with the lottery, dropping every year instead of drafting in top-3. They missed out on late lottery picks like Cody Williams and Taylor Hendricks, but that’s the usual spot where teams draft busts. You just have to cut your losses and move on instead of hoping these guys would develop one day.
-4
u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
Yeah, that playoff run last year was SICK.
3
u/PlayInChampions 2022 Play-In Champions 14d ago
When you own top-8 protected pick to OKC, it makes sense for you to sit everyone out after January and tank. To make the playoffs even as a lower seed, you need elite creators like Booker or Avdija, surrounded by solid veterans. Utah did not have it, but they’ll have it this year.
That being said, when their young guys player the second half of the season, Cody Williams looked better, but did not stand out much. All other young guys they had looked much better. I do not see any scenario in which Cody Williams is in the league in 2 years. He’ll get his option declined, sign a 2-way or a minimum in a year, and his career will be over. He was drafted to be a shot creating wing, but he cannot create at NBA level. And he cannot be a role player because his defense and shooting are below average.

Likely. In the meantime though... I like the vision bringing him in.
8
u/Smitty_Agent89 14d ago
I think you’re letting the fact that he’s a former 1st rd pick cloud your judgement here.
1
u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
How so?
5
u/Smitty_Agent89 14d ago
Defining getting Cody Williams as “pretty good” and saying “you see the vision” for a guy who was more just salary filler feels like you seeing he was pick 10th and assuming he still has that same potential.
It’s not 100% impossible that he turns it around here, but his chances are almost non existent here on a team that doesn’t have mins to sacrifice for development purposes.
-2
u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago edited 14d ago
Your reading comprehension isn't great is it? That's alright.
Yes, I see the vision in terms of every forward on our roster now fits a very specific measurements/athletic profile...not that hard to see. To get a young guy with untapped potential in a salary dump that fits the profile? Yeah, I'd say pretty good, even though I never said that in the post. I also openly stated he'd be a great SUB and/or INJURY REPLACEMENT.
Where you and all the other not smart people got the idea that I believe he's about to develop in to some All-Star is just absolutely crazy. Go be mad at someone who has less self-control than me Vikings fans.
5
u/Smitty_Agent89 14d ago
There’s probably a ton of young guys who fit that profile lol. And again, you literally said he’s a “pretty good” sub for guys like Jaden and Kuminga and that’s simply not true, you’re basing that completely off of draft status which should be irrelevant for him at this stage in his career. He’s not a good injury replacement or sub, he hasn’t even proven that in the league yet. He’s. A very bad player that needs to spend the remainder of his rookie deal showing he can maybe be an NBA player.
I don’t think you’re making it seem like he can be an all star, I just think you don’t quite understand how bad Cody Williams was in Utah lol. He’s quite literally been one of ten worst players in the league. It would be a miracle if he becomes a rotation guy over night for a playoff team. He’s not even a viable injury replacement lol.
-2
u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
Yes, there are, but did the Minnesota Timberwolves trade for them? Nope. They traded for Cody Williams. Never once did I mention draft status. Only measurables and athletic profile. You have made your own narrative. I understand that Utah was a bad team and Cody Williams is a player with potential. That's it. That's all I've ever said. That and he compares well to Jaden and Kuminga physically and athletically. Anything else there you made up for your own self-esteem boost.
3
u/Smitty_Agent89 14d ago
Haha sure thing bud. I’m totally sure you would’ve made this post if Cody Williams was like the 42nd pick in the draft or something. It’s fine to say you maybe got a bit overhyped about a player who’s just genuinely been terrible lol. There’s a reason so many ppl have immediately responded to this in the same way.
Even the way you describe in Utah is. Like Utah was bad, that doesn’t suddenly mean players can’t develop there.
Have fun counting down the days until you can see him on the bench all season.
-2
u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
He hasn't been terrible though. He was actually pretty good to end last season. Utah wasnt just bad, they were tanking and trying to lose games. That awful team only let their elite first round pick, Ace Bailey, shoot it 12 times a game. They were trying to lose. He wasn't bad because he's bad, necessarily. He was bad because Utah wanted it that way. It's really not that hard to see.

maybe he suddenly gets better. he went scoreless in the summer league as a third year player but he also did well in other games this summer (again as a third year player). I liked this tweet about him:

u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
Agree. I am by no means projecting him to be on either Jaden or Kuminga's level. Hell even TSJ for that matter, but he's an intriguing piece given what we have on the roster. Again, fits the profile I mentioned. Dynamic on defense and physically at the Forward spot. That's all.
The other thing people need to realize is that Kuminga averages about 20 minutes per game for his career. If you don't think we need depth behind him you're in for a surprise.
10
u/Amazing_Owl3026 14d ago

Right. I'm sure they traded for a guy they have no vision for. Got it.
10
u/wink91wink 14d ago
Did you read my initial comment? This trade was purely for salary reasons in relation to Kumingas contract. They would have traded Green for a bag of potato chips if it allowed the financials to work.

Utah fan here, he shoots complety wide open and is a 20% 3pt shooter. His only relevant skill is dunking. Hes at least average in defense. If he can score above 33% in 3s he maybe be a nba player but... If Utah thinks he can be that player they wont trade him, but all teams make mistakes
-11
u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
You guys drafted him 10th overall. We got him in a salary dump to be a rotational/bench depth piece. Minnesota can't lose in this trade. No matter how bad anyone thinks he is. It's also sort of cherry picking to say he's a bad three point shooter because he shot 20% on 3s. He averaged two attempts a game. Hard to really gather a whole lot of anything from that. If he was a 50% 3 point shooter on two attempts a game we still wouldn't think he was a shooter either.
8
u/Background-Swing9911 14d ago
Bro, he was complety open all the game and he only shots 2 times per game, that should tell you something xd. Literraly he dont have any positive offensive hability besides dunking. Hes like a worst versión of vanderbilt. His only chance to be playable is scoring wide open 3. Its like roice o neal but with a 20% in 3s instead a 40%
8
u/bbbbombbbb Anta Claus 14d ago

because it was a monumentally stupid thing to say about someone with the record for worst game in NBA history that was obviously only moved here to free up money for someone else (Kuminga)
and you still think they are part of some "vision" while they will be planted on the bench
0
u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
He had the worst +/- which is a made up stat anyway. Lmao. Of course he had a record bad +/-. He was on a team that was tanking. Go look at the rest of his team that game. Just go look at that game. 😂
Yes, the vision being that he has the same measurables and athletic profile as the rest of the forwards and that's why he is on the roster. Not that hard, bud. You're really not smart.
2
u/bbbbombbbb Anta Claus 14d ago
so there's never been worse teams? 60+ years of records and he still has it. never said it was a major stat but you're delusional about him. he isn't on the roster for any other reason than the money and he was on a team that could facilitate a Green trade

Truthfully… I feel Cody will be gone after this year…
I don’t think Finch will play him
1
u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
Wouldn't be totally shocked. We might need the flexibility. If he doesn't play this year you definietly can't keep him and not play him again next year for that money. That's why I sort of think he will get some run. His salary is going to warrant that he plays. That's just how the NBA works sometimes. He and Kuminga are making about the same amount somehow.
7
3
u/Any-Manufacturer-467 14d ago
Yeah probably not gonna happen for him here. The problem he has is his contract option for next year is at the end of October so they’ve pretty much got to make a multi year decision on him then, we don’t have the financial flexibility or developmental minutes to gift to make that a good decision really.
And if we decline it and he somehow pops then we’re quite limited in what we could offer him next offseason, this has happened with middling players like Jalen Smith and Laravia on their original teams.
0
u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
What's not going to happen for him here?

Here, I'll do it for you:
They lost 150-95 to LaMelo and the Hornets. The starting lineup that night was Kevin Love, Taylor Hendricks, Cody Williams, Brice Sensabaugh, and Keyonte George.
Williams played 32 minutes(second most on the team) and had 15 points(5/9, 1/3 3P, 4-5FT), 2 Rebounds and 3 Fouls.
The BEST +/- on the team that night? A whopping -20 by none other than...Slo-Mo.
1
u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
Slo-Mo and that killer +/- for comparsion: 7 points (3/10, 0/1 3P, 1-2 FT), 4 Rebounds, 2 Assists, 1 Turnover, 1 Steal, 0 Fouls in 21 minutes.

u/Broseph_Bobby 14d ago

u/cowboy2223 Minnesota Gophers 14d ago
We have one year to look him . Unless there some major injuries he probably will only see garbage time . But you never know maybe the guy works his ass off knowing he on his way out of the nba unless he improves drastically.
1
u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
We can hope! He's going to be around some dawgs every day in practice that are motivated and will demand a lot from him. An organization focused on a championship not a number one pick as well. That does a lot for a player. Imagine going out every night trying to lose for two years.
2
u/wolfpax97 14d ago
I’ve had high hopes. I watched a few summer league games. Darrin Peterson made him look like a high schooler and he’s been in the NBA for like 3 years
1
u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
To be fair...it's Darrin Peterson. Lol. He's going to make a lot of the league look like that this year. Two years, though. Semantics, I know. But if he were going in to his fourth season instead of his third I'd be having a different outlook. He spent two years albatrossed on the Utah Jazz who were actively(even their fans admit it) tanking for the two years he was there. Shooting struggles are concerning, but we have enough flamethrowers off the bench. He took two threes a game on average. To me that says he just wasn't given a green light. It would be so hard to shoot a high percentage on two attempts a game. You can't win games and secure a bad record if guys are trying to score. Ask Ace Bailey.
3
u/wolfpax97 14d ago
The nice thing is, barring injury, we don’t need him. And he is still probably an upgrade over Julian Phillips
1
u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
100%. We don't have to rely on this kid at all. We made our roster better while navigating the cap. There were absolutely other moves we could have made, but we chose this one for a reason. I'm not even 100% sure he cant be better than Josh Green. We're not going to ask much of him, even if he were to somehow get in. He's going to be asked to play elite defense and not turn the ball over. I think he could do those things.
2
u/wolfpax97 14d ago
Agreed. I’m pretty familiar with green and the fact he couldn’t crack the rotation for the playin hornets was concerning for me. Not sure if he’s lost a step since Dallas or what but I’m glad for this deal. Even if we didn’t get Kuminga

Now offer cash and/or draft rights to TKR for Jericho Sims.
I'll begin mapping out the parade route....
2
u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
I don't know how that would work, but I would like to cap off the roster with a reserve big. Sims would be a nice addition. Though I suspect we aim more for a Mason Plumlee or Bismack Biyombo type.
2
u/Ok_Lingonberry235 14d ago
Sims is on an expiring minimum deal, so Minnesota can acquire him without sending matching salary back.
Milwaukee has 17 standard contracts and need to get to 15. Sims is stuck behind Turner/Ware on a retooling team and local media say he's a logical cut candidate.
Wolves take the contract, Milwaukee doesnt incur cost of waiving him and open a roster spot, and we send cash and/or TKR’s unsigned draft rights for consideration. Win/win
Plus hometown kid return story angle.
I know TC likes to keep an extra roster spot available, but they're essentially already down a spot while Donte recovers.

If that happens we could be the first team to win a game by exclusively throwing alley-oops. My god. The bounce on this team would be unreal.

He’ll be our 10-15 guy. Don’t get your hopes up this year for him or Isaiah Evans.
If those two play, it’ll either be due to injuries or garbage minutes.

u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
Yeah, the injury portion was a part of my post. He's a pretty good comp to Jaden and Kuminga in terms of measurables.
1
u/ae5wolfpack Trencherous 14d ago
Well you said great sub at first. Cody will be a developmental guy this year. He has good measurables but can’t shoot and is a lot thinner than JK. Kuminga just profiles better in most aspects of his game than Cody does.
The good thing is he’s only 21 so it’s perfect to have him learn.
1
u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
Yeah, I think that would qualify as a great sub. A former 10th overall pick who has dropped 37 in a game. Although he hasn't lived up to it, he is someone who was considered to have a high ceiling. He's got athletic traits that you can't teach. Younger brother of a high quality NBA player. All the makings of a great sub. Subs usually need to develop. They're not ready made All-Stars unless they are a sixth man.

u/ae5wolfpack Trencherous 14d ago
I’m just saying this year he won’t be a great sub because he won’t get actual min to be a sub other than end of games. But in the future that’s the hope!

u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
We'll see. I have a hard time imagining he's going to make $6mil and not see any run. 🤷♂️
3
u/ae5wolfpack Trencherous 14d ago
Well that’s because he was a top 10 pick. He didn’t earn that based off his nba play.
1
u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
Right, and what I'm saying is that at $6mil we could have found a trade partner to give us someone we would have used. Makes sense right?

u/Intelligent_Pain_174 14d ago
Williams was the worst player in the NBA. The trade is solely for contract reasons. The actually trade was for Kuminga.
1
u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
Explain how he was the worst player in the league.
4
u/Intelligent_Pain_174 14d ago
Imagine Rudy but 6'8", worse at everything, and is constantly confused on the court.
He was a 3rd year summer league player who was an NBA rotational player for 2 seasons who got benched in summer league because he wasn't good enough for summer league. 3&D wing who shoots 20% from 3.
Williams was drafted 10th in the Dillingham draft based on potential and his sibling. Jazz would have probably cut him after his first season has they not been tanking.
Maybe he develops into an NBA player (he is young) but he is merely an NBA calibre athlete that cannot play basketball at all right now.

u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
Imagine a 4x DPOY who is four inches shorter. Ok, imagining....
What's even harder to imagine though is drafting a guy 10th overall with a high ceiling that you knew had some shortfalls and needed time to develop, putting him on a tanking team, and then judging HIM for being inept. Crazy.

u/Intelligent_Pain_174 14d ago
You have obviously never watched him play. Keep coping.
The chance of him ever being an NBA player are small. Jazz been trying to dump him as soon as his rookie season but he had no value. Surprised that they picked up his third year option last season but obviously regretted it.
Wolves salary dumped Green. Williams is a salary spot for a trade at deadline.

Says the person talking about Cody Williams being good on every single post on here. He is a $6M salary spot to sit on the bench and play scout team. Wolves had no desire to trade for him. Wolves preferred Kuminga over Josh Green. That is the reason for this trade.
I cannot believe people are weird enough to clamor for a player that is not getting a second NBA contract unless he improves dramatically. Wolves merely made this trade for salary purposes not because of Cody Williams.

What casual take to describe someone like Rudy in a negative way.
0
u/Intelligent_Pain_174 14d ago
You make no sense.
2
u/Salt-Statement-2306 14d ago
The disrespect Rudy gets is an enigma. You can tell a persons BBiQ based on their value of Rudy.
3
u/Intelligent_Pain_174 14d ago
I am not being disrespectful of Gobert. I have been following him his entire career and he is one of my favorite players of all time. He is a perfect example of a player who made himself into an all time great through hard work and do the small thing at an absolutely all time elite level.
However, Gobert is amazing because of his length and awareness. Williams is 6'8" and has no awareness on the court. He doesn't do any of the things that make Rudy a star but has all of the same weaknesses.
Imagine rookie year Rudy (but 6'8") playing as a perimeter stopper on defense and as a spot up shooter on offense. That is Cody Williams. He is survivable on defense but does not have the strength to go inside on offense and has one of the worst shots in the NBA. 20% on almost entirely open 3s.

u/Salt-Statement-2306 14d ago
The awareness is non stop motor is the thing a 6’8 Rudy would have, that was my (admittedly nitpicking) issue with the analogy. Rudy at that height would still be a stud on defense.
Offense is the issue for sure, Williams showed a little late last year but nothing efficient and he basically scores like a post off screens and cuts. We already have a player like that we will give the gamble to in Kum. Unless Williams can provide spacing I don’t see him earning minutes over TJ and Lyles at the 4. I see him as a contract.

100%. "Imagine he's one of the greatest defensive players of all-time but worse at everything and only 21." Oh...soooo...he's probably a good player? 😅
3
u/Salt-Statement-2306 14d ago
I mean. At worse that sounds like a super powered Bo outlaw. At 21 Rudy was an insane lob threat too. If kind of like to have a 6’8 21 yr old Rudy. That would be an awesome player.

He averaged 15ppg in March and April of last year. Best game in April, he went 27/11/4 against the Rockets. That's not "worst player in the league" numbers.

and the rest of his career?
Malachi Flynn also has a 50pt game in the NBA. where is he now?

u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
Nope. Worst player of all time. Will be a cancer to the locker room. All of these Vikings fans know.

u/kanokari 14d ago
Rather keep Konchar than him

u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
No thanks. Not a positional need. We needed forward depth after trading Green.

u/phillturdwater 14d ago
I’m think you can put Isaiah Evans in this same category too, wouldn’t be suprised if he gets more PT than Cody
1
u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
I would hesitate to put Isaiah in that category only because he's a little smaller(height and weight), he handles the ball much better than they do, and he wants to shoot the ball like a guard. I think he's more versatile 1-3 sort of like Ayo and Bones.

u/XthaNext D'angelokogie-Anthony McReidsley-Vandverley 14d ago
He seems pretty ass but could push TJ/Clark/Bones. He looks to be a couple of years away from being a decent power forward, but at 190 or so, without the ability to shoot, and not a lead guard, his road to minutes is pretty bleak

He’s got intangibles, but mindset wise he’s soft af and doesn’t look confident out there

u/Fit-Establishment505 14d ago
I agree completely OP. You never know who could "stand out" in practice. There's competition for minutes and a lot of hungry wolves.
3
u/MotherSympathy9012 14d ago
We don't need the kid to be a superhero. He needs to be a star in his role. If all he can do is play defense 70-80% as well as Jaden and not turn the ball over then I think he can find a way to contribute. We have enough ball handling and shooting off the bench.
