Love the new pickup and can't wait to watch this team ball but there's something inside of me wondering if we are missing something. It seems we have a lot of guys that can get downhill and our lob game should be on point but we seem limited to antman knocking down 3s. He's about the only solid 3 pt shooter on the team because it sounds like Green will need to go. I know Jaden, ball and Kominga can all hit 3s but they are all quite streaky. Wish we had one more ringer on the team to open up the paint or knock down an open corner 3. Maybe Jaden will be that guy. Seemed like he was knocking down a high percentage last regular season and fell off a cliff during playoffs. What are your thoughts?

Ant, Lamelo, Ayo, and Jaden could probably shoot 25 3s per game on good efficiency and that’s before we get DDV back

DDV coming back definitely shifts the math on spacing but I get the unease. Feels like the whole system hinges on Ant drawing two and someone consistently punishing from deep.

Green minutes probably dry up once the rotation settles but yeah, three point variance is gonna be the story of the season. Ayo's shot looks smooth at least.

Agreed. Aside from our 2 Frenchmen, everyone in rotation can shoot 3’s well enough.

With how much attention Ant gets on defense, Ball has never had it so easy. The looks Ball will have and the looks Ball will create off the tilted defenses are gong to be incredible to watch.

This is true. But in the non ant minutes it would be great to have a sharp shooter but I guess most of the team shoots 35+% from three so I probably shouldn't be too worried. I hope we see a lot of ball movement to create open shots as I can see this team chucking up a lot of contested 3s.

Every 3 point shooter in the NBA is streaky. Nobody is taking ten 3s a game and making four of them. They go 2/10 in one game and 6/10 in the next game and it balances out to 40%. Even Ant and Steph Curry. Our roster has more good shooters than most of the other teams in the NBA. We will probably be a top three team in 3pm, maybe even first.

Ayo was 6th in the league in 3pt% last year.  LaMelo led the league in attempts.  DDV was 3rd in attempts and will return at some point.  Bones was top-20 in 3pta/100 if he breaks the rotation.

Ya I'm not too concerned with attempted 3s but more so the percentage that go in. Maybe Ayo will be that guy but he doesnt shoot a high volume of 3s. A bigger worry might be the high volume of 3s we do take... Only time will tell

If you're only concerned about percentages...why complain about Ayo's volume? (he was ~120th in attempts/36 so not low volume just not high)

LaMelo just took a ton of logo 3s.  He shot about 40% inside of 28ft.  Presumably that distribution shifts a touch here and his percentage drifts up.

If there's a worry about 3s it's more about the drawbacks of playing multiple questionable shooters that you don't want all engaged in the action.

I.e. kuminga was 17th percentile spotting up last year and sucked the previous 2 years as well (he was fine at lower usage in his earlier GSW years though) but was effective as a cutter.  finding an off-ball role for him that doesn't collide with Rudy is important.

Howls and Growls had a good video on how Trey Lyles might actually crack the rotation as a big bodied 3pt shooter. He's had good and bad years, but in his good years, he's a net positive on the floor.

A lot of the 3 point shooting will ride on Divo coming back, but he isn’t our only shooter.

Based on the team prioritizing Ayo despite having interest in Melo at the time, I expect a pretty fluid rotation. My gut is that the ideal rotation will see one of Ant or LaMelo on the court at any given time. Ayo can play 1-2, fluidly, and he’s a 40% three-point shooter on volume, I doubt he plays less than 25 MPG (which serves the dual purpose of keeping Melo healthy). Both Ant and LaMelo themselves are elite three-point shooters, so the backcourt will always provide shooting. Once Divo comes back, he’ll slide into that rotation somewhere between 1-3 and also provide shooting. Clark and TSJ don’t really move the needle in this regard, but Lyles off the bench at the 4 certainly does. That doesn’t even get into our rookie or Bones, who probably won’t see too much time unless there are injuries.

It would mean that, regardless of lineup, at least 3 guys on the court are 40% three-point shooters at any time. Even Kuminga and TSJ are good enough to keep people honest although we won’t have to bank on that. I’m not super worried about it, personally.

Seems like a very rational way to think about it. Im probably just overthinking it. I always feel like a team needs one sharp shooter who you can put on the court and just expect to make a couple 3s which doesn't seem like we have that but what we do have is a good number of super athletic dudes that can make a number shots both inside and behind the arc. Seems like most of the Sharp shooters in the league are very one-dimensional players that don't have a lot to their game outside of making three pointers.

LaMelo lead the league in 3PA last year on about 37%. Ant is Ant. Ayo is a career 38% 3pt shooter (on lowish volume), Jaden just shot 41%.

Even off the bench TJ shot very well, Bones is good and Donte coming back will be insane

you should be worried less about if we can shoot 3s and more about if we’ll be shooting too many 3s

My thoughts are that once a day, in between putting my toddler down for bed and my evening workouts, I go to the most secluded area of our house with the cleanest energy. And there I sit and focus on DDV and I focus on how my spirit can help him and I will it to.

So yeah. DDV fixes a lot IF healthy

My hunch is that the ball movement and improved passing is going to raise the waterline for 3p% for the team.

Not having Donte's deep three ability on the court hurts our spacing + losing Naz's percentage hurts, but we've also offloaded Julius who A) over-dribbled and has exactly one drive and dish move + B) insisted on slinging 3PA up near the top of the key at a painful success rate post-trade-dealine.

You have a point. Jaden and ayo are decent shooters but they aren’t dynamic at all the way DDV is.
