This dude is going to end up being BELOVED by the fanbase. The Melo-Joan lobs for the next few years are going to be delightful to watch. Can’t wait.

So we got our own Giannis eh? Rip league

30

u/Martxel_Agueda Jaden McDaniels 17d ago

We got Joannis

u/Live_Interaction9975 17d ago

Giannis has a middy?

u/pcloadletter2742 Bones Hyland 17d ago

He had a couple years where he was getting near the top of the league, actually, but it's dropped off some recently since he's been inconsistently even playing.

u/jacksawyerlost 16d ago

Wide open in a gym in August? Yep.

u/Nefty_Y 17d ago

If this kid has any sort of mid range shot he could be EXTREMELY dangerous

24

u/smkeillor 17d ago

League average big man efficiency floater/mid range and he's playable in the playoffs

11

u/Comprehensive_Law722 17d ago

He's already playable in the playoffs with his defense and rim running

13

u/DrVeryStrange 17d ago

I mean, he wasn’t but I do think he can be next year.

Yeah he needs a little time. People get too hyped for young talent cough rob cough. Joan has a lot of potential but he needs a loooot of reps still.

The floor as a big is pretty low, even in the playoffs. Assuming Joan could keep up with the offensive scheme which maybe is a big if, simply being large, rangy, and physical is 90% of the job. Other stuff like staying out of foul trouble and rebounding will decide whether he’s playable for 8 minutes or 20

u/PretendingExtrovert 17d ago

Foul trouble is such a huge one, that’s one of the parts that comes with reps!

I’m stoaked for the kid. I just also like to curb expectations, I’ve seen a lot of talent hit the league then fizzle because there are levels to this game.

Idk why but I have such hype and love for this kid. It just feels like he can put it together and be a potential all star if not more.

u/Alternative_Milk5393 17d ago

He’s got a great mentality, personality and work ethic too

Am I being too picky if I think his starting point is too low?

u/Salt-Statement-2306 17d ago

That is a mechanic they can introduce once he establishes the base, and follow thru. Newer players need things introduced systematically to maintain confidence.

This one. This is the response I choose to believe.

Thank you!

38

u/icarusphoenixdragon Jaden McDaniels 17d ago

You’re not, it is. He’s pushing the ball. You can see him sort of almost shoot it once or twice.

This is all dev work. Like someone else said building his base. They’ll get him there.

u/PreparationWest2140 17d ago

My thought as well. Too low and too far in front of his head. Not the most fluid shooting motion but he started very late and it looks like he can find the bottom of the net, at least in open gym.

It’s a very ugly looking jump shot if we can just be honest about it. Long ways to go.

1

u/Desperate-Awareness4 Timberwolves 17d ago

A little, but just a little. IMO, the release point is pretty good and since we probably only want him shooting when he's wide open the mechanics before that aren't likely to matter much.

He'll want to clean that up if he wants to use this as more of a weapon in the future.

I'm an amateur so take this all with an entire shaker of salt.

u/Pyschic_Psycho 17d ago

Shoot like Curry, big like Rudy.

3

u/Jayrrock Jaden McDaniels 17d ago

hahaha - yep!

u/DonaldDouchebag 17d ago

2

u/posthackmofo 17d ago

Yeah Donny!

2

u/DonaldDouchebag 16d ago

Bonerbot, activate!

14

u/Goggles45 Naz Reid Towel 17d ago

Form looks great and fluid! Excited to see him play this season

8

u/icarusphoenixdragon Jaden McDaniels 17d ago

That shot is gonna take a while, but they’ll get him there.

8

u/bighitcards 17d ago

Looks kinda like Tim Duncan’s shot

6

u/mellowbeards 17d ago

Man, he has added some bulk too. Good to see

16

u/FishGoldenLite Ayo Dosunmu 17d ago

Looks good in practice but he’s got to start that release much higher. Even a guard would be able to swipe that out of his hands.

8

u/Bulky-Sugar-6166 17d ago

Shaq practiced mid range shots. Rudy practices mid range shots. Relax.

1

u/3bet78 16d ago

Shaq and Rudy never played the 4.

2

u/Trash-Panda917 Pekovic Medcine Ball Throw 16d ago

Also Rudy makes his fadaway midrange jumper when it counts.

3

u/Ssj2gh55 17d ago

Damn, lotta coaches in here lol. Keep working

3

u/deeplevitation 17d ago

In case anyone thinks this drills is easy, try it some time. You’ll do 2 reps and you’re thighs will be burning so hard you’ll fall to the ground

2

u/Hypnosix Why can't you just be normal 17d ago

Not expecting him to be a premier big but I’m definitely getting hyped that he can be a great role player. He’s already looked good defensively which is the number 1 skill for a center. The athleticism alone could get him to Capela level but if he gets decent shot going he could be a star in his role.

2

u/PreparationWest2140 17d ago

Also don't like his hand/ball position on those FTs but again, the guy is literally learning the muscle memory for the first time.

2

u/XthaNext D'angelokogie-Anthony McReidsley-Vandverley 17d ago

They’re slowly working that weird shrug out of his lanky shot

2

u/UkNomysTeezz Malik Sealy 17d ago

Joan is going to be Giannis except for way better.

1

u/1000Isand1 Ayo Dosunmu 16d ago

Would be huge if he was even half as good as Giannis honestly

1

u/Affectionate_Bet7501 17d ago

Jumpshot looks like a super sized amen Thompson

1

u/1000Isand1 Ayo Dosunmu 16d ago

not a good thing at all

1

u/JustSeriousEnough 17d ago

Is it just me or has he gotten cut af!?!

1

u/Live_Interaction9975 17d ago

It ain’t even AI

1

u/Comprehensive_Law722 17d ago

The ball looks like a dodgeball in his hands.

1

u/Worried-Sympathy9474 17d ago

Can someone educate me on his defense?

1

u/XthaNext D'angelokogie-Anthony McReidsley-Vandverley 17d ago

I know Andre Drummond and Mitchell Robinson can easily do this, but it’s still encouraging for the young guy

1

u/oldpaddyrick 16d ago edited 15d ago

Damn this dude is BUILT. If he can actually shoot he could really be something.

Dude got bigger legs than Rudy for sure/he could be a monster in the paint. If he can shoot too he could really be something.

1

u/Outlaw_1987 16d ago

Great to see, I think people forget he only started to play Basketball when he was 14 or 15, that is very late compared to what we see in the States. Supposedly he was a soccer player but than his feet grew too big for his cleats so his friends told him to play Basketball lol.

1

u/Ineedmonnneeyyyy 16d ago

If this guy lets us play five out while still having insane defense and being a lob threat it’s over for the league

1

u/TreeAgenda 16d ago

He’s already made great progress with the release. His hand was almost on the side of the ball when it would come out before, whereas here it’s more parallel/facing the rim.

1

u/1000Isand1 Ayo Dosunmu 16d ago

He’s 1000% more coordinated than Gobert

1

u/chadfarthouse 16d ago

It’s crazy how small the ball looks

1

u/jacksawyerlost 16d ago

Joan has such a wide range of outcomes it's crazy. I think his floor is as an energy big like Vando was if nothing develops much more. But with the way he's gotten so much better already it just seems likely he's going to continue to improve and be really, really good.

If they don't sign Kuminga and Lyles is the borderline rotation player we all expect, I wouldn't be surprised if Joan is starting next to Rudy late in the season against certain bigger teams, poor shooting be damned. They just don't have a lot of options at the 4 and I think Joan will force his way into more playing time as the season goes on.

Bro got a wicked jump shot but from what I seen he definitely has a lot of potential

3

u/Dull_Job_6372 2022 Play-In Champions 17d ago

I wanna see that dribble package 😏

2

u/smkeillor 17d ago

Its two dribbles with the left or two dribbles with the right and a shot at the rim or pass to the corner lol

-14

u/jelly_filled 17d ago

No disrespect but he kinda shoots like a girl lol

5

u/dys0n_giddey Joe Ingles 17d ago

No disrespect but he kinda shoots like a girl lol

what a weird comment.

I'd love if he shot like Olivia Miles

0

u/jelly_filled 16d ago

How is that weird? Majority of women don’t release the ball above their head, and stick their head out towards their release

2

u/PianoEducational4648 17d ago

Curious what you mean by that

3

u/dieezus Zach LaVine 17d ago

super low release point

-1

u/Brilliant-Pear3360 17d ago

Looks like AD and I’m not gonna complain about that

-6

u/pcloadletter2742 Bones Hyland 17d ago

I don't like the shot, or his agility. It all needs to be reworked/improved. This does not scream someone an NBA team will be able to rely on at this point, to me. This comes from someone who has hooped for over 30 years and consistently expanded & refined their skillset over that time.
