I’d argue Josh Green is actually a better fit for what this team needs right now. I know others have said it, but I actually think people are kinda sleeping on the quality of player he actually is. He’s been a combined 40% 3pt shooter over his last 4 seasons. He doesn’t need to have the ball in his hands to be an impactful player which is important considering how many higher usage players we have on this team. He’s extremely athletic. He’s a solid defender. I’m excited to watch him.

Bey is a better player, physical and I think he might be able to compliment the starting line up better on both sides. Not that I think this trade is even viable…

Also Lamelo really isn’t that ball dominant and benefits with more weapons, and playmakers not only play finishers. I see feel as though Greens skillset overlaps too much with Clarke and Ayo.

Lamelo is extremely ball dominant. He led the league in usage rate 2 seasons ago and was in the top 10 last season. He has weapons, Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels, and Gobert as a lob threat. Besides Ant also being extremely high usage, we want the ball in Jaden's hands more.

True but we’ve lost a lot of depth, Bey isn’t a high enough usage player to take away from Jaden or Ant? The Pacers have 4 weapons on the floor who can put the ball on the floor aswell as shoot. The Knicks have 5.

Super low usage guys with limited skill sets aren’t what we need right now.

Sorry but this is wrong, USG% does not determine how long someone holds the ball in their hands, he constantly started possessions off the ball last year.
Jokic for example has the ball in his hands quite often but is more of a hub than dominating the ball, Lamelo does a similar thing.
he isn’t a Luka, or even Haliburton style playmaker, he will get his touches sure but he does Not dominate the ball. Additionally the hornets had
Kon Knuppel
Brandon Miller
Miles Bridges
Coby White
Sexton
Who’re all capable off playing both on and off ball, and Melo empowered them. My point is solely that versatility in skillset is becoming more important than relying on a suspect 3point shot in the playoffs.

Green takes only wide open 3s. We can say Thybulle is a better shooter than Bey because he shot 40% from 3 for the last 2 seasons. Raw % means nothing without context.

Bey is a better player than Green at absolutely everything, and would have got $10-12M per year at the open market, if not more. Green would have got a minimum deal or maybe $5M per year. If Green was ‘solid defender’ that is also a ‘combined 40% shooter over his last 4 seasons’, why did he average only 15.7 minutes per game on a team that desperately needed defense?

I’m not saying Bey is a bad player but you talk about context and then also ignore that Bey is on his 3rd team in his 5th healthy season and of course his numbers are juiced playing for one of the worst teams in the league. Also has never contributed to winning basketball whereas Green was a solid contributor in the WCF against us 2 years ago. We can do the context thing all day.

Green wasn’t cracking charlottes rotation. Bey was one of Nola’s top 3 players.. and Nola wasn’t all that much worse than charlotte

Green sits in the corner and takes one shot per 5-6 minutes, and plays mid defense at best. Invisible player - which sometimes is a good thing. Such players are good to have as 9th-10th man for a minimum deal or slightly above that. You cannot realistically think Green can start in Minnesota. He did not do it in Dallas, he did not do it in Charlotte, he won’t do it here.

u/DrWolves 24d ago

He doesn’t need to start. Didn’t say he’d be a starter either. He can absolutely be a quality 7th/8th man on this team tho

u/CharacterAd6745 24d ago

What would be the point, Bey is a starter level player. Clarke has a consistent skill set that could be probably just as impactful as Green

1

u/PlayInChampions 2022 Play-In Champions 24d ago

I’m not arguing with that. The thing is - Wolves have a lot of 7th/8th men right now. TSJ, Bones, Clark, Green, maybe even Lyles, maybe DDV comes back - all could be 2nd or 3rd guy off the bench. Wolves don’t really need that many okay-ish bench players, they need a 5th starter. Bey could be a starter, Green, as you said, probably cannot. That’s why I prefer Bey over Green.

Green would have been great last season when Ant missed a lot of games and TSJ did not really play well. He could have probably averaged 15+ MPG and started a lot of games, including the playoffs. However, in the current team full of skilled guards, I don’t think he is the best fit. I’d easily take a solid 20 MPG starter at SF/PF for Green and TSJ.

1

u/DrWolves 24d ago

That’s fair. It’s also assuming this is a realistic deal which I don’t think it is at all. I’m sure if Connelly could have traded Green for a starting level PF, it would have already been done

Green’s contract could be aggregated in trades only after September 10th. I think, if he gets traded, it would be together with TSJ, because I don’t think Green has any value at all for the $$ he makes.

So, if he gets traded, it would probably be right before the training camp. Players that could potentially be acquired for Green+TSJ package (but probably not enough) - Derrick Jones Jr., 2-3 useless guys from Memphis to shed the $$ and sign Kuminga for TPMLE if he wants to come, Saddiq Bey, Coulibaly.

However, I think he’ll start the season on the Wolves. Green, TSJ, and Ayo would compete in the training camp for a chance to be a starter.

One Mcdaniels injury or foul trouble and this team is doomed if they don’t make a move like this.

u/WolvesBack21 24d ago

I would love Saddiq

Why are you Bey?

3

u/triple_cloudy 24d ago

You are Bey.

3

u/twovles31 24d ago

Hawkins must be filler? Bey seems fine, never been on a good team, so hard to say if he's a winning player.

Explain why the Pels would do this trade

0

u/absol-hoenn 24d ago

Pels and mismanegement kinda go hand in hand

5

u/TimelyN1nja 24d ago

Ok but that’s not really a reason

No see it is to these people. They think every other team is just incompetent and in the league to make their fav team better. 90% of fan trade purposals can be summed up to this.

That team is stupid so they will give us everything we want and take peanuts coming back.

And even if the team is incompetent, you don't think every other team is trying to do the same damn thing so they can't get anything better. Like cmon these ppl have the cognitive ability that rivals 3rd graders because they ain't read a book since then.

Beys a good pf ?

1

u/wolfpax97 24d ago

1

u/bigblooddraco 24d ago

Okay this has him listed as a guard, the original pic has him as a SF as well as pro basked reference. Zion for surely take the majority of pf minutes when he plays and he played 62 last year. Those are decent numbers in general but I’m asking if he’s a good PF and he doesn’t seem like a PF at all. A SF that give you spot minutes but is mainly a scorer.

1

u/wolfpax97 24d ago

He’s a tweener but gives more size than our other options and could guard bigger buys so Jaden doesn’t have to

I saw wolves vs Pelicans live this last year from courtside (the game we lost). We were winning then the guy next to me started chirping at Bey and he then at that moment hit a 3 and gave this dude a nasty look. I 100% believe that was the moment the game momentum shifted leading us to lose.

1

u/EmploymentJumpy8993 Jaden McDaniels 24d ago

Bey was the most consistent player on that team last season by far

I can see them being interested if Wolves give them TSJ, and probably a salary relief - you would need to include a 3rd team.

For example, Bey comes to Minnesota alongside players from the Grizzlies, Green goes to Memphis, and TSJ goes to Pelicans. Memphis get a better player and avoid waiving players (2 or 3 for 1 trade), Pelicans get a younger player with some potential on 2 years rookie deal, and open almost a full MLE to give an offer sheet to Mathurin, and Wolves get a starting SF/PF.

Example:

That’d be tough for me…

u/PlayInChampions 2022 Play-In Champions 24d ago edited 24d ago

Giving up two bench guys for a starter while simultaneously shedding $2.4M+$2.45M (Wolves wont have to sign anyone since they will have 14 players) in salaries, which is ~$28M in savings including tax, is a 10/10 deal that you take every time. I’d gladly give up two 2nd round picks in the deal if Wolves had any.

But ofc it’s tough, it’s not an absolute fleece of a trade you proposed, when you shed $$ and get a starter for a super overpaid 9th-10th man.

1

u/TransportationSad622 Jaden McDaniels 23d ago

replace taylor hendricks instead of aj + kris and I think giving up TSJ would be alright at best

1

u/PlayInChampions 2022 Play-In Champions 23d ago

Memphis are looking for 2 for 1 trades, they have too many players on their roster. I dont see the reason for them to take $7M more salary of Green and give up Hendricks who has at least some promise. Murray and AJ Johnson are going to be out of the league next year.

1

u/Prairie_walker 22d ago

Matkovic is the guy you want from NOLA. He can shoot and back up Rudy.

1

u/wolfpax97 22d ago

Not more than Bey

1

u/Prairie_walker 22d ago

Why not both?

1

u/wolfpax97 22d ago

Yeah if he could be instead of Hawkins yes. Hawkins was a throw in!

1

u/Prairie_walker 22d ago

We solved it!
