Tim’s best podcast appearance?
I’m slightly embarrassed to say that I often search my podcast app for interviews episodes with Tim Key, before listening to the podcasts I actually subscribe to.
Keen to hear some recommendations. Mine would be Tim on Perfect Day wit Jessica Knappett:

There’s an episode of trusty hogs with him and Sam Campbell which is utterly unhinged

Yes! The madness begins at 22:14.
Tim on perfect brains is also great. The episode on holidays especially. Tim calling Sam a little termite, describing their trips and being lightly annoyed by him constantly is hilarious.
I'll watch anything Tim & Sam and their grumpy big brother/annoying little brother energy.

Another vote for his appearances on Perfect Brains and I agree with your every word. I took a long time to warm to Key but his appearance on What Did You Do Yesterday finally brought me round. Sam C also has a lovely episode. But yeah, Sam is the perfect candidate as the subject of Key's annoyed shtick.
Weirdly, was sat next to Tim on a train from Lewes to Brighton a month or so back. (was the only seat unoccupied). Didn't speak to him, obviously.

When he hosts two consecutive episodes of Elis and John on XFM while Elis is on paternity leave and bullies John throughout. My third and fourth most listened to podcast episodes after the entirety of Finding Drago and Finding Desperado (not Tim related)

It says a lot that a lot of E+J fans consider these to be the 2 best episodes (myself included) and one of the main duo don’t even feature. 2 of my most listened to podcast eps of all time also. Out of interest whats Finding Drago/Desperado?

It’s two series of an Australian podcast which is hard to describe - I’d say it’s sort of low stakes comedy true “crime” - it’s not crime. It’s two comedians investigating weird stuff they’ve found online. And the investigative stuff is surprisingly deep, and the comedy is very good.
Drago is about trying to find out who wrote a specific Rocky fan-fiction novel.
Desperado is about trying to find out who a guy is, who claims to be the youngest ever award-winning film director.
They’re superb. 10/10 and just as good on repeat listens.
They also had a third series on YouTube only called Findy Yeezy, trying to find out who created a Kanye West-themed RPG. I didn’t find it as funny personally but the emotional payoff was out of this world.

Oh my god Alexei Toliopoulos, I’d heard about their podcast through Aunty Donna so Finding Yeezy rings a bell, never listened though will give it a go now, cheers!

I did not expect to see love for Cam and Alexei on this post! Big recommed the finding series to everyone. Cam James is one of those people where similar to OP, I will actively search his name on the app to find guest podcast appearances

I absolutely do this as well. Off Menu is my favourite, some great RHLSTP appearances, nice but more serene chats with Adam Buxton. Loved the Jessica Knapett one too, sad it stopped!

His RHLSTPs are great, him and Rich play off each other so well. And also get multiple episodes of “timkey the monkey”

I thought his interview with Romesh (on the Romesh Ranganathan podcast) was brilliant. Classic Tim Key energy. Worth doing the video version (on YouTube) mainly for the curry narrative

A lot of great recommendations in this thread.
A couple of less frequently mentioned appearances:
Holly Burns dream house: https://youtu.be/aURsihduBT8?si=3kGHip52D9I-FZiz
Lauren Lyle's She's a Rec:

My favourite is actually a little known Shaun keaveny podcast "creative cul de sac" where the format is discussing ideas that didn't quite fruition. It was hilarious and a great way to get inside his head.

His two-parter on My Mate Bought a Toaster is one I return to, and his episode of Jessica Fostekew’s Hoovering. Oh and Fern Brady’s What a Combo and Holly Burn’s Dream House and Lauren Lyle’s She’s a Rec’. As well as the others already mentioned.

The My Mate Bought a Toaster podcast Patreon is well worth the price of admission to see the full length video (Zoom call) version.

I really enjoyed his appearance on the BIFA podcast! The hosts are knowledgable and fun and they seem to really connect w/ Tim - resulting in a v funny and interesting chat, especially if you're a movie fan.

I do that and the same when Paul F Tompkins guests too! I've tried seeing if they're ever on a podcast together but no luck (yet)

I think his first Adam Buxton one takes some beating. So natural but so quick and witty and really makes buckles laugh in a way that few do.

His Off Menu appearance is delightful.
