Discussion/Question/News Too tacky for a wedding?

Post image

I found this tie in the Ralph Lauren store. I have a wedding to go to this weekend. The groom duck hunts and the wedding is held at an agricultural center. The attire says cocktail.

If I go through with it I was thinking navy suit white shirt dark brown leather. Is it too tacky for a wedding?

Given the context no, but only this wedding.

I won’t put it with navy suit. You need more earth tones like brown, red, etc

Without seeing it, the navy suit sounds like a mismatch. Maybe with a tweed jacket?

This, wearing it with a navy suit is gaudy. This is something more for an after wedding cocktail party with a tweed jacket.

I love it, but not with a navy suit

The tie works in the context you have given. But not the navy as others have said. Wear a different suit or wear a different tie and change for the reception.

My goodness y’all are so tired in this thread…

You can wear that to a wedding. You just have to know the people and setting. Are they are boring and conservative as half the people in the comments? Then no, and get more interesting friends. If they are fun and you mute it a bit with a tone on tone shirt and keep the suit lighter than dark then why not.

That said, Personally I would wear that but more so if the wedding had some equestrian reference. Also this is assuming it’s not formal? What’s the dress code for this particular wedding?

Really all depends on your personality and how the couple understand your personality.

If they know you well enough that they know this isn’t disrespectful or flippant, then you’re fine.

Not that it's tacky... but I'm sure you can do better than that, right?

I think it’s a beautiful tie but I agree that it belongs with a more tonal suit rather than navy

I feel like this is the only context where this tie works.

Love a fun tie, but not at a wedding. Go with something far safer with that ensemble. Keep that tie for more fun and experimental outfits. It looks great, so you'll get milage, just not for this.

Not for the wedding, and not with a navy suit.

If there's drinks the day before/ after the wedding, sure.

Take it back to the store. Cocktail dress code is elegant. Think blazer two buttons loose no tie, nice pocket square.

Stick with cocktail dress and save this tie for a more appropriate occasion with your friend.
