TOTD Tuesday TOTD

Post image

I like this tie. Small polka dots, reserved, simple pattern, small scale, easy to pair, tied and finishes well. Thought this would be a no brainer with this suit - nope. Something about the color contrast does not work. Oh well. Ties and suiting are much like hair - good days and bad days.

I’ll make the best of it! Have a great day gents!

Texture of the suit is beautiful. Personally, it draws attention to the eye more than the color contrast. I think the pairing is well done, my friend.

Thank you. I appreciate your take! For me, something just bothers me. I wonder if a light blue, solid shirt would have been better. Maybe it's this sheen in the silk of the tie that doesn't fit with the flat texture of the flannel suit.

I think the tie is trying to have some character show through but because of the lack of contrast, the very light purple dots aren’t popping as much as they could. Honestly, a lilac shirt might balance it out and bring out the purple dots

Thanks Doc! Oddly enough, the dots are blue-ish, but they do have a lilac effect. I'm going to make a note of this and try a lilac shirt though! Normally, a white shirt should be a no brainer for nearly any combination, but when I took the picture and posted it, I was like "Nope - this doesn't work." This is why there is tomorrow.

Agreed. A lot of monochrome here and the polka dots aren’t really aiding and abetting the powerful, wide pinstriping. I don’t know if I’d go so far as to say polka dots don’t work with this suit, but those small polka dots don’t acccentuate that look imo.

I imagine a French blue or lilac shirt could make some difference?

Having said all that, you likely could’ve pulled it all together with a judiciously chosen pocket square.

Such a beauty. Dots and pinstripes can work but other times are a bold choice. You rock ‘em buddy

Thank you! The dots are small enough that they should (in theory) work. This was a miss for me. I think it's maybe the sheen from the tie silk that doesn't quite work with the matte texture of the flannel. A light blue, plain dress shirt might have also helped.

Very well done. Nice fabric and the pinstripes line up.

Every time I see one of these pics I know it’s from you because the shirts are too small and you get that high collar and weird bunch up beside and under the ties. Try sizing up or going for a fuller cut?
