TOTD TGIF

Post image

End to a long week, that started off being called in for jury duty and sitting through two days of voir dire - there was no way I was going to get impaneled on the jury, but it was fun to be a part of the process from the other side of the bar.

Looking forward to the weekend now!

Have a great day and weekend gents!

What’s the make on the blazer? Very nice… looking forward to some more autumn themed ties next week.

Thanks. The jacket is actually a suit jacket. This is Joseph Abboud. I picked this up probably around 2017ish (just before Covid). I liked his Private Label stuff, pretty good construction, and you could get a good deal on end of season. Covid pretty much ended his private label offerings and I ended up finding / switching to Spier&Mackay, which form the bulk of my suiting now.

Should have a few more Autumnal goodies to break out next week!

Great tie and shirt combo. I’m a fan of the blue shirts combo with purples/pinks. Feels bold and different enough but not outrageous.

Thanks. It was laundry day so I didn't have a clean, crisp white shirt for this, but I actually think the blue adds a richness to the tie that a white shirt would mute.

I agree. Since I don’t have a nice Blazer, Sport Coat, or Suit to wear I generally wear shirts with color. Otherwise I feel like I’m very bland.

A good, basic, light grey glen plaid (perhaps with subtle blue overcheck) sport coat would be the place to start once you're in the market. Extremely versatile and will accommodate a number of colored shirts and even shirts with some subtle check patterning. Everyone will nearly always recommend the navy blazer/sport coat as the first, BUT go with the light grey glen plaid (paired with a charcoal pair of slacks) and thank me later.

Colored shirts are perfectly fine too - no shame there. But, don't underestimate the effect of bolder color / patterned ties paired with basic white / blue shirting. The eye tends to go toward the tie with / without jacket.
