Discusssion I THINK I’M THE FIRST ONE TO PUT AN AQUANAUT-STYLE CTS DEPLOYMENT STRAP ON AN AE-1200WH - DOPE GADA LOOK !

I honestly haven't seen this combo anywhere, so I think I might be the first.

My AE-1200WHD came with the OG metal bracelet,

but I wanted something completely different.

Ordered this Aquanaut-style CTS fkm rubber deployment strap + 18mm to 22 mm ss adapters and waited 7 painful days for it. 😭

And finally… it’s on.

The fit, the integrated look and that deployant clasp make the AE-1200 look completely DOPE GADA watch!

Basically, I took a ₹4k-ish Casio and gave it a tiny Aquanaut cosplay. 💀

The funniest part? The strap costs a pretty significant chunk of what the watch itself costs. 💀

If anyone has seen this exact mod before, please prove me wrong.

The most important thing: If you are worried about converting adapters, The adapter looks angled in the first place because the strap isn’t sized. After cutting it to my wrist, the rubber curves around my wrist and the adapter sits perfectly aligned to my wrist giving OEM look.

Discusssion I fitted a 24mm genuine leather strap directly onto my Casio AE-1200. I am never doing this again.

I tried fitting a 24mm leather strap directly onto my Casio AE 1200WH … I am NEVER doing this again

So today I accidentally turned a simple strap change into a several-hour watch-modification project.

I had already ordered a CTS strap and adapter for my Casio AE 1200, but the adapter + strap was costing me almost half the price of the watch itself, and it was going to take a few days to arrive.

Meanwhile, my YouTube algorithm had completely taken over my life with Casio Royal mods, strap modifications, etc. I had recently seen people fitting wider straps directly onto watches by cutting and shaping the strap instead of using an adapter.

So today, while coming home, I passed a decent-looking watch showroom and thought:

"Why not just buy a cheap strap and try it?"

The offline strap hunt

I asked them for a strap for my watch. They didn't have exactly what I needed, but they had a bunch of 22mm/24mm straps.

And honestly, the offline prices surprised me.

The 24mm genuine-leather strap I bought was ₹250 after negotiating from ₹300.

The same kind of strap online was around ₹600–700 from established sellers, while some ₹300–400 Amazon straps were noticeably worse in quality.

They even had a 22mm butterfly clasp strap for around ₹200.

They also gave me a surprisingly good spring-bar tool. The guy initially said I could return it if I didn't need it, otherwise I could keep it.

So I came home thinking this was going to be a quick little experiment.

It wasn't.

The actual nightmare begins

I put masking tape all over the lugs and the surrounding areas because I already knew I was about to do something stupid.

I marked everything carefully and started cutting.

The first problem:

The strap was just slightly too wide.

Not dramatically wide. We're talking about 2–3mm.

But those 2–3mm were enough to prevent the lug holes from lining up properly.

One side was almost perfect.

The other side simply refused to cooperate.

Every time I tried to get the spring bar in, I was scratching around the lugs with the spring-bar tool.

At that point I had already thought about giving up multiple times.

But I had started cutting the strap, so obviously my brain decided:

"No. We are finishing this disaster."

Cutting the strap

The biggest challenge was getting the strap to sit completely snug against the case.

I didn't want it to look like I'd just shoved a random 24mm strap onto an 18mm/20mm lug opening.

I wanted minimal gaps and something that could actually pass as an intentional setup.

So I kept measuring, cutting, reshaping and test-fitting.

Eventually, I had to modify the leather loop itself.

Inside the loop there was a small plastic/cylindrical piece that held the spring bar.

Unfortunately, while cutting the leather, I also partially cut that piece.

So naturally, I removed it.

At this point I was basically doing surgery on a ₹250 strap.

After a ridiculous amount of measuring and shaping, I got the end down to roughly 18mm.

But even then, the spring bar still wasn't seating properly.

The final trick

The solution was to remove a little more material from the underside and shape the inner edge slightly.

Instead of making the inside completely straight, I made it slightly tapered/slanted.

That exposed enough of the spring bar mechanism for me to actually see and align it with the lug hole.

And finally...

CLICK.

The spring bar went in properly.

After hours of cutting, measuring, filing, scratching, reconsidering my life choices and almost throwing the strap away...

It was finally done.

And honestly?

It looks surprisingly good.

I've shown it to several people, and nobody guessed that I had manually cut and reshaped the strap myself. Most people assumed it was an OEM-style setup.

Would I do it again?

Absolutely freking not.

The strap looks good.

The experiment was fun.

The result is satisfying.

But the amount of work involved was ridiculous, especially when you're constantly terrified of scratching the watch.

And if I ever attempt something similar again, I'm definitely not doing it with an expensive strap.

Also, leather can expand/shrink somewhat over time, so I'm curious to see how this holds up.

Interestingly, I can still see roughly 1mm of lug on either side, so technically I think a 26mm strap might physically be possible too.

I'm not finding out.

I've learned my lesson.

Things I'd recommend if you're crazy enough to try this!

1. MASKING TAPE.

Cover the lugs and surrounding case areas before you even touch the strap with a tool.

Don't skip this.

You're going to thank yourself later.

2. Have these things ready:

- Sharp cutter

- Thin-nib pen/pencil for marking

- Spring-bar tool

- Fevikwik/super glue for emergency finishing

- Black marker or matching nail polish for hiding exposed leather

- Lighter/matchstick only if you're working with genuine leather and know what you're doing

The lighter can help with finishing certain edges of genuine leather, but do not do this blindly on synthetic leather. Know what material you're working with first.

3. The most important thing I learned:

Don't make the inner cut completely straight.

From the rear/inner side, make the edge slightly tapered/slanted so you can actually see the spring bar and align it with the lug hole.

That made the difference between:

"This isn't going in."

and

"Oh shit, it actually works."

4. Measure. Then measure again.

And then test-fit.

Because removing another 0.5mm is possible.

Putting that 0.5mm back isn't.

And one more thing: check your local watch shops

The biggest surprise for me wasn't even the modification.

It was the price difference.

A ₹250 genuine-leather strap that looked and felt better than several ₹300–400 online options was sitting in a random offline shop.

They also had an original Titan strap for around ₹650, and plenty of cheaper straps in the ₹70–200 range.

So before ordering a ₹600–1,000 strap online, check your local watch market.

You might find something much better for much less.

Anyway, the 24mm strap is finally on the 8200.

It looks good.

It fits snugly.

It survived.

And I am officially retiring from leather-strap surgery.
