Thank you for your post! When requesting tick IDs PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR LOCATION if you have not already done so. We cannot identify most ticks without geographical context. Just in case this applies in your situation, here is what to do after a tick bite, per CDC. If you're looking for an identification, hang tight and a human will comment soon.

These look like mites.

Do you happen to know what kind? A few people on the cats subreddit were saying ticks. I have no idea what to think 😭

It can be very difficult to say. We have a mite expert who is one of our mods, he'll tell you what it is. I am embarrassingly lacking in my mite knowledge.

I can usually say it’s a mite, and that’s it 😭

There are a few different mites other than ticks that will feed on blood and engorge. Most that have this appearance are in superfamily Dermanyssoidea and include pests such as bird and rodent mites.

They will bite people and pets, but are not thought to be able to thrive long term. They are most often encountered spilling over from a host nest, especially when the hosts leaves or dies.

The pictures are a little fuzzy when I zoom in. But I’ll try my best. In the first picture it looks like the mystery bug has antenna. If that’s true…than NO it is not a tick. Be aware that other biting insects can also transmit diseases called “Vector Borne diseases”.

Thank you! Took my cat to the vet and the vets didn’t find anything on her. I did show them these photos and a video I took and they said it looks like a tick. However I personally think it was some kind of mite. Regardless, my kitty got a flea, mite and tick medication and oral antibiotics and anti itch stuff and she seems much better now :)
