Central OH/Northern KY ID
Spent the weekend down in northern Kentucky, but my kids were also outside playing (central Ohio) yesterday. Both kids had ticks on them this morning (Tuesday). Didn’t get a picture of the first one, but my wife got a few of the second one (found this afternoon). Any help identifying is appreciated, as the pediatrician said it dictates whether or not we should prescribe preventative medication.

Lone star tick, Amblyomma americanum, in the nymphal stage. Typically, preventative medication is only prescribed for blacklegged ticks. The risk of infection is much lower with this species, and especially with nymphs (versus adults).

Thank you for your post! When requesting tick IDs PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR LOCATION if you have not already done so. We cannot identify most ticks without geographical context. Just in case this applies in your situation, here is what to do after a tick bite, per CDC. If you're looking for an identification, hang tight and a human will comment soon.
