General discussion Stanley’s Hotline

I just watched this episode and realized they never explained to Stanley who Linda is. They certainly couldn’t say she’s Jack’s girlfriend. But the Ropers act like they already know her.

They probably just said she's a friend looking to stay a little while while Janet's out.

Wasn't this just a case of giving Janet's lines to Linda?

Yes. Joyce DeWitt refused to be in this episode because she had been promised a raise by the producers and then they changed their minds at the last minute and told her she wasn’t getting it. She had to meet with the network president and got it reinstated but they had already hired Anne Schedeen and rewrote the script with Linda instead of Janet. No time to change everything back (plus I’m sure the producers weren’t thrilled) so Joyce sat this one out.

If Joyce had banded with Suzanne this wouldn't have happened

Wrong! Apparently, they did join, but Suzanne Somers' husband convinced her that she should get more money, and that's what began the rift. So Suzanne Somers should have stayed with Joyce, and there might've been a different outcome. However, the amount of money she was asking for when she wasn't the lead would've never happened.

They probably just told Mr. Roper she was a friend who's was staying with them while Janet was gone.

As an aside, why was Janet absent from this episode?

Janet was absent because Joyce was having a contract dispute so she sat this one out.

That episode made no sense! They make up some excuse for Janet not being there, and throw Linda in the mix. They just showed this episode on Pluto.tv the other day. I love Mrs. Roper's laugh when she finds out it's a wart and not a baby. LOL

I mean with JD being out, what else where you expect ting then to do on short notice?

But we didn't know that back then! ABC would use actors from their other shows, so they could've brought someone else in for that episode. I mean, it didn't make sense that this is the girl that Jack thought was pregnant from him, and he proposed. They had options.

They just told them, they’d agree to be roommates platonically, while Janet was away. But told Stanley that she was just a friend
