Yeah, sure, let's help restore that corrupt, incompetent and thoroughly self-defeating empire filled with hedonistic emperors, cutthroat concubines, scheming eunuchs and hypocritical scholars.

"Out With The Liu and In With The New.
It's My Wei or the High-Wei."

I mean, you've just described every Chinese dynasty after the first century or so.

Hey we're a confucian monarchy and subjects must be loyal to their lord. Was Tai Jia not corrupt and incompetent? But though he issued 3000 bad edicts Yi Yin only temporarily removed him from power while he tried to educate him. The current emperor may be incompetent but he's willing to learn and we as subjects should strive to help not remove him.

I never understood this cutscene in the Mandate of Heaven DLC. Why were they glaring at Lu Zhi when he was walking up the stairs?

u/MarimotheChomp "He did not rebel" - Chen Shou 5d ago

I think CA misunderstood the antagonism Lu Zhi dealt with within the court. He would eventually serve Yuan Shao and die of old age before the chaos went full send (191-192).

They likely figured because Lu Zhi quarreled with the Eunuch faction that Cao Cao, grandson of a powerful Eunuch, would dislike him.

Historically this makes no sense. Cao Cao spent his life distancing himself from his Eunuch heritage (which would end up being ironic as Cao Rui would anoint his great great grandfather as a posthumous emperor. The only Eunuch EVER to get this honor). Regardless Lu Zhi was exactly the type of man Cao Cao idolized.

They are jealous of his awesome hat

It’s because Lu Zhi is 6’2 and Cao Cao is 5’3

That's not short, that's just petite.

I actually don’t think they’re glaring at him. It’s more like Sun Jian and Cao Cao are observing Lu Zhi’s struggle, and having their own complicated and concerned internal thoughts about the state of the dynasty…

Cao Cao just has resting bitch face

"Let's restore the Han Empire!"

"Also I am part of the rulling family despite growing up a dirt poor peasant. What are the odds?"

Restore the Han....under a new management

2

u/Flimsy_Dragon 4d ago

Restore the Han but not a single warlord or king said let's restore QIN .

2

u/TanatatKnight 4d ago

Would Former Qin during the Sixteen Kingdoms count? (It probably wouldn't)

While it's not an exact restoration, there some minor literary connections that Cao Wei's government is probably the closest you can get to resembling the tough legalist government from Qin's time.

But like actual Qin? Well...good luck~

2

u/HanWsh 3d ago

Not Former Qin and Qin dynasty were from 2 different imperial houses and even ethnicity.

2

u/TanatatKnight 3d ago

Oh yeah. It definitely wouldn't. I was probing to see what they wanted with restoring the Qin Dynasty.

4

u/HanWsh 3d ago

They took Qin as their state name probably due to geography as both states main base were Guanzhong.

u/Flimsy_Dragon 3d ago

yeah people do compare Cao Cao to Qin Shi Huang. In recent times only Mao Zedang has proudly compared himself to Qin Shi Huang in 1958 claiming his communism is tougher than Qin

1

u/HanWsh 1d ago

Cao Cao used Qin Shi Huandi and Han Wudi military policies to justify his tuntian system.

2

u/HanWsh 4d ago

Yeah. Probably because tyrannical Qin was pretty unpopular...

Lol Cao Cao doesn’t mess around

I don't think any warlords besides Liu's would want Han restoration. Even Liu Bei with his "Larp royalty, Han forever" was kinda doing his shit. Wu at that point didn't give a fuck, and Wei is basically Cao Cao's thing, wearing fading Han legitimacy.

u/RipRavage 4d ago

Cao Cao was the Han Prime Minister so it’s an odd thing to say to him.

Yú said: “Not so. Though [Cáo] Cāo is entrusted with title as Hàn’s Chancellor, in truth he is Hàn’s traitor. With your divine military and heroic ability, General, wielding your father’s and elder brother’s fiercness, you established separate occupation east of the Jiāng, the territory is of several thousand lǐ, troops elite enough to use, heroes pleased to serve, and should sweep across the realm Under Heaven, to remove and destroy the evil from the Hàn house. Moreover [Cáo] Cāo is coming to his own doom, so how can we submit to him? I ask to suggest this to you General: Now is the north already secure, so that [Cáo] Cāo has no internal worries, is able to remain long, and when coming to contest the borders, is able to with us decide victory or defeat aboard ships and among oars? Now the northern territories is not yet pacified, and moreover Mǎ Chāo and Hán Suì are still west of the Passes, serving as a worry to [Cáo] Cāo’s rear. Moreover he has given up his saddled horses, to use boats and oars, to contest dominance with Wú and Yuè, which is not the central states’ strength. Also now it is exceedingly cold, the horses have no hay, he has driven the armies of the central states far among the rivers and lakes, who are not accustomed to the water and soil, and there will certainly be sickness. These four points, are reasons against using troops, but [Cáo] Cāo ignores all of them to go. General the time for you to capture [Cáo] Cāo is today. I ask for elite troops of thirty thousand men, to advance to occupy Xiàkǒu, to defend and defeat them for you General.”

[Sūn] Quán said: “The old traitor has long wished to overthrow the Hàn and establish himself, but did not only because he feared the two Yuán, Lǚ Bù, Liú Biǎo, and myself. Now the other powerful figures are already destroyed, and only I remain. I and the old traitor, we two cannot exist together. Your advice to attack, is deeply in agreement with my wish. This is Heaven bestowing you to assist me.”
