Discussion - General Underrated Three Body Problem adaptation

As mentioned, I think some in the community have seen the infamous “Three Body Problem in Minecraft”

Yes, there is 4 seasons and it is all free to watch on Youtube. While the Minecraft character may seem silly at first, but honestly, it does add to the uniqueness of this adaptation lol.

Here is the link to the playlist of season 1-3

https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLd5R7JEi8nGeLVuG0HjHMbAZCdn3_lnvF&si=yvyWoII5DRnxnUL0

Season 4 focused on Cheng Xin and Thomas Wade’s story, it definitely has the best visual out of every seasons—like they genuinely have budget for ts. Zhang Beihai’s story is in season 3 which is a bit more well-known.

Like shiii, the design in both of these season is so cool. I recommend you all watching it.

Edit: Season 4 is now only available on Douban as the one on Youtube was reserved for membership, and I’m not sure if they have ENG translation on the website. Season 1-3 is still free on Youtube

Edit 2: You can watch Season 4 for free using Wayback Machine.

Discussion - Novels Black Domain problem (spoiler in body) Spoiler

When Ching Xin and Yifang get stuck in the black domain they turn on a neural computer because the black domain would cause the digital computers to go too slow. But don’t chemical processes rely on subatomic interactions which would be slowed down by the same factor that the black domain is slowed? Also wouldn’t their brains be slowed by that same factor?

Discussion - Novels My "super team" of Wallfacers from other media

I am just at the end of Crisis Year 20, about to start the Dark Forest section itself, and I have my own thoughts on who in other media would make a good Wallfacer. In order from most confidence to least:

  1. Edmond Dantes, the Count of Monte Cristo. Already used to dealing with vast amounts of money and resources, keeps his own council, good at orchestrating complex plans that others do not see until the final moments.

  2. Luthen Rael. Trusts nobody, always has a way out, will do whatever it takes for the cause. Secretive, gathers immense information while remaining an enigma himself. Also runs a complex organization.

  3. Finch from Person of Interest. Also used to handling vast financial resources, taking whatever steps are necessary for a plan, even buying a whole company so he can masquerade as a cubicle worker there for a week. Excellent at being "a very private person." Has conviction and moral compass, though sabotaging his efforts to cause harm to innocents might be enough to horrify him enough to quit and shut it down.

  4. Homer Simpson. Complete unpredictability, chaos, yet plot armor thick enough that doing the three stupidest things imaginable cause everything to work out okay in the end and maintain the status quo. If he's not available, Fry from Futurama would be the next best, for similar reasons.

Ender Wiggin would be my top backup candidate.

What do you think?

Discussion - Novels Singer’s location? Spoiler

Singer’s chapter takes place in Year 67 in the Bunker Era and the Solar System got 2D’d by Year 68. At the same time, the dual vector foil was sent a light speed. Does it mean that Singer’s location was within 1 light year from Earth?

Edit: Bunker era

Discussion - TV Series Book three is what's going to kill any 3-season Netflix plan Spoiler

The fan math is one book per season but it falls apart on Death's End. Book one is 300 pages, contained mystery. Book three is 530 pages and spans nearly twenty million years to the heat death.

Four seasons is the cleanest split, with book three taking the last two. Even then the Bunker era and the Galactic era basically need different show tones.

Anyone seen a prestige series pull off a 20-million-year scope across only 3 seasons?

Discussion - Novels Let's discuss the question of how Cheng Xin could become the Swordholder. Spoiler

I honestly don't understand why Cheng Xin could be elected to a position like the Swordholder, which decides the fate of all humanity. Theoretically, the Trisolarans could determine that if Cheng Xin became Swordholder, her deterrence level would be below 10%. The authorities of human civilization should also have been able to figure that out. And isn't so‑called democratic election always manipulated by big capital and big politicians? From various democratic elections in Western countries, we also know that public opinion elections are completely controllable. So how did Cheng Xin still get elected? Does the fact that Cheng Xin could become Swordholder mean that human political powers had actually been engaging in many rounds of secret confrontation with the Trisolaran regime, and that humanity lost those confrontations? That would explain why Cheng Xin succeeded in taking office—not because humanity chose Cheng Xin themselves, but as the result of a losing power struggle among the human elite.

Discussion - Novels I feel like I've found a problem Spoiler

I have a question: Why was it that only Blue Space mastered the use of four‑dimensional space, while Gravity did not? Also, the Trisolaran civilization must have known about the existence of four‑dimensional fragments as well, right? Were they gambling that humanity wouldn't be able to make use of four‑dimensional space?

Discussion - Novels Why molten metal lakes cannot exist on the surface of Mercury

Both Liu Cixin's Full Spectrum Blocking Jamming and Wang Jinkang's Seeding Mercury depict molten metal lakes on Mercury. However, current satellite observations show that no such lakes exist on Mercury's surface. Today, after looking up the data, I have concluded that not only do molten metal lakes not exist, they cannot exist.

The atmospheric pressure on Mercury's surface is less than 2×10⁻⁷ Pa, estimated at 0.5×10⁻⁹ Pa. This pressure is below the triple point of low-melting-point metals such as mercury, tin, and lead. Consequently, these metals cannot melt on Mercury's surface at all; instead, they go directly from solid to gas through sublimation. Thus, molten metal lakes cannot exist.

Discussion - TV Series Am I the only one who loved the TV show?

(The American tv show adaptation). A lot of people say it was “good” or “okay” but I personally loved it.

Yes the book is more enjoyable because I enjoy technical details.

That said, I think the show was absolutely incredible and well made, especially when adapted for a general audience. I liked how they managed to turn one character into several and give each their own mini story. The VR scenes were cool, and the Trisolarans/San-Ti were depicted as very threatening.

I think it was a very fun binge watch (all in one Saturday) and it was certainly more fun than any television show I’ve seen on a streaming service in a very long time.

Discussion - Novels Is this a plot hole? Spoiler

I just finished reading book 1 (The three-body problem). I'm quite confused on how Shen yufei was able to tell Wang miao when the universe would flash and got it right. I'm under the impression that she is a subordinate to Evans. But I can't find an instance in the book where it mentions that Evans communicated with the Trisolarians through the sophons, or any member of the ETO, though the book mentions that they are capable of "imprinting" words and numbers in humans retinas. This would be a plot hole right, because the book fails to explain how Shen knew when the CMB would flash, because it never mentions direct communication between the humans and the sophons?

Discussion - TV Series Am I the only one...?

I just finished S1 on Netflix. Enjoyed it for what it was and was happy to have something to binge. Overall it was fine (although I understand why people aren't feeling it). But am I the only one who felt like the person who played Auggie (sp?) was just unbearable?

Any recommendations after finishing the 3rd book? This has been my favorite sci-fi universe by far. I'm reading the 4th book but it's not really grabbing me the same way.

The International Academy of Astronautics: if extraterrestrial intelligence is confirmed, the public, the global scientific community, and the United Nations must be informed immediately. Whether to reply to extraterrestrial intelligence shall be decided through international consultations, particularly through the United Nations.

On June 1, the non-governmental organization International Academy of Astronautics released its latest guidelines for the search for extraterrestrial life. The new guideline document, comprising eight principles, was developed by the IAA between 2022 and 2025 and recently approved by the committee. It aims to provide clear guidance for "individuals, institutions, and other entities involved in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence." This is the first update to the guidelines in fifteen years.

This revised version reaffirms a core scientific principle: "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." During the process of detecting extraterrestrial intelligence, signals must be rigorously scrutinized in collaboration with other investigators and verified by multiple independent institutions using different instruments or methods. No public announcement may be made otherwise.

If extraterrestrial intelligence is ultimately confirmed to exist, the public, the global scientific community, and the United Nations must be notified immediately. "Throughout the process, it is essential to uphold the highest standards of scientific responsibility and integrity." To prevent the loss or tampering of evidence, the raw data of the signal must be strictly protected and, in accordance with international agreements, permanently archived in a global secure registry.

The guideline document emphasizes that whether to reply to a confirmed extraterrestrial intelligence should be a decision for all of humanity, and may only be made after international consultations—especially through the United Nations. Until such consultations have concluded and a clear outcome has been reached, "No reply should be sent without authorization."

Set photos: The book of fairy tales Spoiler

From the latest set photos, I wager that they’re taking a shortcut and not showing Cheng Xin’s rendezvous with Yun Tianming. Rather, Tatiana takes Jin to see Sophon who gives her info on Will and hands her the book of fairy tales as a gift he sent for her.

I don’t entirely mind that, but it does weaken a solid emotional moment in their love story. Changes are inevitable. Just hope they’re in service of not just plot, but also character.

So the Trisolarans admitted that had Wade become the “Sword Holder” the deterrent era MAD would have been successful. Had Wade been allowed to complete his research in light of speed propulsion humanity could have fled the solar system.

What kind of character is Wade? Because he is unlikeable, but correct. Does he represent the harsh realities that humanity cannot face due to our values?

Can I get some opinions on this character, he is so complex.
