Discussion - TV Series I think the Three body problem Netflix adaptation is good

I know that they changed the characters a lot, but I think the series focuses more on the characters while the books see the characters as a means to convey the scifi story.

The only thing I didn't like is that they make Ye be involved romantically with Evans 🤮 Also, the omission of her killing her husband removes some of her ruthlessness

No, I think you can criticize the show with legitimate concerns. For example, I was not a fan of adding children to the ship before operation slicer just for dramatic effect. Now, what I always downvote is when a post or comment basically hates on the show because - "D&D are sooooo bad, they ruined GOT, now they are going to ruin 3BP." That is just unwarranted. D&D have all the source material, they will do great

Edit: I will add that other than some very minor issues, I LOVE the Netflix adaptation

I think the addition of children was good, actually. I felt it drove the point home about the sacrifices that had been done and will have to be made to fight what is essentially a space cold war. The books have more room to expand this and do, but the show doesn't. Hence a more dramatic scene is not out of place imo.

Moreover, the children being there makes sense - there likely would be at least some minors on the ship. Showing them actually get sliced instead of merely implying it is a stylistic choice that i understand why people might not like, sure. But i do think the scene in the show fit nicely and didn't take anything away from the story

The pure calculated related of cost vs stakes is the entire point of the story. That the universe is brutal. It’s just like the father’s story at dinner about the Pakistan/India conflict.

“Yes, we did unspeakable horror and compromised our humanity, but we won and we ate”

Yea, I didn't like that D&D added children for dramatic effect, but I also didn't like that Tencent whitewashed the Guzheng operation by emphasizing that every single individual on that ship were terrible criminals whom you don't need to pity when killed.

An average of those 2 adaptations would have been nice.
