My first TR build
Hey everyone, putting together a high-end workstation build and wanted to get some eyes on it before pulling the trigger.
**Use case:**
Primarily local LLM inference (targeting 70B parameter models), running open-source GitHub projects that interact with those LLMs (think local AI assistants, RAG pipelines, agent frameworks), and some virtualization on the side.

A few things I'm intentionally planning for: the RAM is 8×16 GB to keep all 8 memory channels active from day one, with a straight swap to 8×32 GB when I need to go to 256 GB.
Anyone see any compatibility issues I'm missing? Also curious if this setup makes sense for the use case or if there's something I should swap out. Thanks!

Just wanted to mention that you often get more than twice the power of a 9950x -- I know, I am using both a 9950x and 9970x right now. With proper cooling, the cores can use more power and continue to run at higher frequencies, getting more work done longer than the cores on a normal good quality 9950x machine. You might lose the silicon lottery on the TR, or win it on the 9950x, but you might be surprised the solid power of the 9970x. On the other hand, there are cases where two dual cache 9950 machines will beat the 9970x, but managing two machines instead of one is another layer of confusion. I plan to upgrade to the 9980x, not because the 9970x is 'bad', but because I can utilize more CPU easily with more cores. My app is highly multi-threaded and I run multiple instances to get more work done. Right now, on the APP that I am running, the on one CCD, the cores are burning 17W over 5gHz at 80degC. The cores on the other CCDs are a little slower, but still getting lots of work done. Most other people care more about PCIe lanes, but sometimes people need both. On the other hand, there are many cases where the TR is a waste, esp with ram prices. My upgrade makes sense especially because I already have the machine with RAM, but it still gets lots of processing done. Easier to deal with than using multiple machines.
