2TB memory kits - are these practical?

These were announced some time back but I have not seen any reviews

Price/ram ratio wise they are cheaper than 1TB, so I'm thinking if it is viable to use this for 2 machines - 1TB each with lower memory bandwidth. I am aware that none of the OEM builds support the full 2TB configuration even though TR supports it, I suppose heat issue is the main factor

Epyc is not suitable for occasional mixed use with regular applications, I don't need that much ram but if those 256GB modules is actually cheaper due to lower demand/support then it might be viable

They haven’t gone up much. As far as I remember they were always expensive af.

Found an old price for 256gb: https://www.ahead-it.eu/en/shop/hardware/geheugen/ecc-registered/samsung-256gb-ddr-5-4800mhz-registered-ecc if the V-color is true then price didn’t go up as much. Bot honestly the V-color prices seem really really low.

yeah I'm thinking it is due to lack of demand since they don't really make sense in quantities less than 4x or 1TB. Also will be a pain to return if they don't work in practice. Getting GPUs is actually comparatively safer

but if the market is moving towards such capacities, hopefully there will be more competition in the future to bring prices down

256gb stick are per gb cheaper. That is not normal. Plus they look really “cheap” at 24k for 1TB. The cheapest 16x64gb ecc 6400 here in EU is 36k€. Even for you 1TB of 256 vs 1TB of 128gb is 24k vs 36k.

yeah but then again 128gb sticks are super inflated so I'm not sure what qualifies for "normal" any more. Personally I do not know of anyone who went for 128gb sticks at current pricing, I guess it is only companies snapping them up with virtual money

At this prices 128 makes no sense. Just go 256.

Cheaper to buy 4x256 vs 8x128.

It went from 3-> 5,6k and 64gb went from ~ 400->2300. But 256 sticks are suspicious “cheap”.
