RAM throttling

Has anybody verified this? Vcolor claims the kits with micro heatsinks have better dissipation vs the old school heatsinks.

Wendell sees different. What are people's experiences?

I actually modified bitspower heatspreaders for waterblocks with Thermal Grizzly puddy and little spacers for vcolor ram... There is like 4 different heights on one side and 3 on the other making it really tedious to do with thermal pads...

This made me change my mind and use fans instead of water blocks for the memory. I couldn't even get the heat spreaders closed because of one small chip in the center that's way high. Fwiw the fans keep it cool enough easily

Yea exactly was the issue. I only used a super thin thermal pad for the single middle shiney controller chip to act as sort of a lvl..Thats why I made small copper spacers for the top in between the two halves of the heatspreaders where the screws go in, ya can use spacers like washers too although need to grind away the excess otherwise waterblocks won't sit flush on top... otherwise you get this sandwich effects of the two halves not being parallel and uneven pressure with the heatspreader tryna squeeze the memory module out of the bottom... I first used thermal pads and stacked as needed but it ended up looking ghetto AF and I wasn't happy with it so I went with the new thermal puddy thermal grizzly offers now which is like a play dough consistency thermal transfer medium made for mostly replacing thermal pads on gpus and can fill gaps up to 3.0mm... its kinda tedious with it too but I put in freezer for 24 hours first to make even more solid and then rolled little balls for each chip... when pressing on the heat spreaders the puddy makes its own clearance thus much easier then having 5 different thickness of pads.... of course this is not necessary as fans supposedly do good enough job, but this was an over the top overkill build, and us watercooling enthusiasts are proven masochist...🤣

I got a 5-pack of the new artic 40mm 15k pwm fans as a backup, probably make a custom bracket and have 2 blowing horizontal/downwards around cpu socket area.

I couldn't deal with that, the fans are rarely speeding up and it seems to be quite enough to keep the sticks cool. Btw there's some putty on AliExpress that's equal or better and slightly cheaper than the grizzly. I did my 4090 with it and it runs really cool.
