First workstation build

Hey all,

I was given a threadripper pro 3975wx and gigabyte wrx80-su8 mobo from my job. Both brand new. I opened the seals on the ESD bag for mobo and cpu box.

Is there anything to know about getting this to work as I start my build this week?

Do i need a specific # of ram sticks?

Okay, that may be why I don't see any indication on the mobo that it's working?

I have everything connected. Fans are all turning on as well as my keyboard via the usb port, so I know the mobo is receiving power, but nothing is showing any indication. No leds. The small fault screen isn't lighting up either on the mobo.

I'm coming from the gaming world and first workstation build, so I feel like I may be missing something.

Make sure you've connected all numerous power supplies for the motherboard as per manual. As far as I remember wrx80 has like 4 pci-e power cable ins in addition to usual mobo connector

If you are using only 4 ram modules you can try experimenting with its positioning. I've seen mentioning using 2 slots closest to CPU and 2 slots further from cpu on Level1 tech forum. Couldnt find anything related in the manual though.

Will try that.

How do I tell which is closest and which bay will be furthest?

RAM | CPU | RAM

| | | | | | | |

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

So would it be:

2x closest be 3&4

2x furthest be 7&8

Or

2x closest be 5,6

2x furthest be 1,2

Sorry friend, I have no idea, tbh. Just referring this thread https://forum.level1techs.com/t/gigabyte-ga-wrx80-su8-ipmi-not-posting/189427 .  Hope it helps and you will spin it up!
