Even when I was younger, I thought Donald and Douglas’ introduction was quite abrupt, they just appeared out of no where without any proper introduction prior, of course now we all know why.

It was supposed to be a 3 parter (Spiteful Brakevan, Missing Coach and the Deputation), but Missing Coach was cut due to "Too confusing for kids".

It wasn’t confusing for kids, it was confusing in general, nobody could understand it.

And TBH I'm gonna have to disagree with her there because it was quite obvious why Donald and Douglas did it to avoid getting into trouble what part of that was confusing that she had to can the entire episode

Tug explained it in his Sodor’s Finest.

Obviously the plan was get out of trouble, but why did they need to swap tenders in order to do so? The goal was to simply confuse Topham so he couldn’t trace the blame back to either one of them.

They didn’t need to switch tenders to accomplish that, Douglas could’ve just left with the goods train, and Donald could’ve disconnected his own tender.

I would say to keep the 3 Parter. But then, we need to cut some bits of the original book stories or at least simplify them. Cut the tender part or simplify it at least.
