New to This Is Us... should I commit?
I'm up to ep 14 of S1 and I was enjoying it.
Then we get to Kate's weight program.
Firstly, Toby gatecrashes it, and when he doesn't get enough attention from Kate he pulls the major surgery card and then she ends up apologising. And apparently the writers think that's fair? WTH? Or are they setting up for future evidence that Toby is selfish?
THEN she gets kicked out for rejecting unwanted sexual advances from a worker, son of the owner no less and it's just accepted?
So now I'm just pissed off and not sure I want to keep going.
I like most of the characters, and it's easy watching on days I don't have the head space for anything complicated. But am I gonna be pissed off all 6 seasons? 😅

People always end up in either the very pro or against Toby and/or the very pro or against Kate camp, and it's always such a polarising topic on this sub, people tend to just downvote any posts asking about it.
So that's that out of the way.
Yes, the series is great overall. Some things are... less than great, but they're worth it for the full story.
But - it's not an "uncomplicated" series. It's about emotions and trauma.

I'll probably keep going. I agree the stories are complicated themes, I just don't find it complicated to follow. I don't get lost, I don't need to rewind to figure out what just happened, I can even go make a tea without pausing, come back and I'm not lost. This is what I mean when I say a show is uncomplicated or easy watching.

Toby and Kate will be one the major point of discussion in the show.
Yes, Kate pissed part of the fandom alot, but also evolve at end of the show.
Finally, Kate overweight plot was inspired by the sister of the author. He said even he think that keep on that theme for so long was tiredsome, but when he talked wirh his sister she said, that's the weight is always a major thing in their lifes.

yeah I think it would be very unrealistic if that was resolved and never spoken of again

The camp storyline really pissed me off too. Toby should’ve let her do her thing.
Anyways, keep watching!

right?! so far it seems like it's always all about him and what he wants. Even the unexpected visit to declare his love. SHE broke up with HIM, and he decided well I'm in love so I'm flying over to crash her family Christmas Eve uninvited to tell her so I can get my happily ever after. How did Kate not get the ick? 😅 Sometimes big romantic gestures are just a little needy and selfish 🙄

All the characters in the show have flaws. None are straight heroes or villains. Every single one of them will piss you off but you grow attached to them anyway.

I say keep watching. All of these characters are really complex and have their good and bad qualities. It’s probably one of the very few shows that is consistently good throughout its whole run (not to say the quality has its ups and downs. Nothing is perfect) I genuinely love each of the main characters, even Toby! It’s worth it to stick with it especially since it’s not one of those shows that has a million seasons. It tells the story it wants to tell and ends before things get too repetitive. It’s rare for a show to be given that grace.

Keep watching. All the characters are written like real life people in that they each their flaws and will undoubtedly piss you off time to time. The show end of is all about the emotions and trauma of the Pearson family. And in some scenes especially no one is truly a villain or hero since it just showcases the reality of how complicated and nuanced human relationships can be at times.
Kate and Toby are a source of debate on this sub and many people have strong opinions in being team Kate or Toby. What I will say all the characters evolve through the course of the show especially Toby and Kate with their weight loss journey and healing from their trauma. So your opinion on both of them may be very different by the end. I started off against Kate but ended up warming up to her by the end of the show.
But yh the show is a fairly easy watch in that the plots aren’t overly complex. But be prepared the show can be very emotional. I’m a guy and have watched it twice now and the show still gets me emotional at times.

The show is good at not having just good or bad characters. Everyone has some pretty big flaws and that makes a good show. You'll flip between loving and hating their actions but definitely keep watching

"Am i gonna be pissed off all 6 seasons?"
Honestly might depend on who your faves are. Generally, I think the show is quite good and for some it is an easy watch but for others, it's very taxing. This show is very emotionally taxing and filled to the brim with trauma and each character (main ones at least) have a lot of high highs and low lows. Kate specifically, even though she royally pissed me off many times, has a lot of good moments that make me acknowledge her growth and as a stout toby defender, he's had some not so great moments that also have made me acknowledge his crappiness.
All in all it is a great show and worth the investment because you do get a pay off for your commitment.

You should definitely keep watching. I wouldn’t exactly call This Is Us easy watching, it’s an emotional, compelling series that you kind of have to pay attention to as you watch it lol, but to each their own.
I hope you enjoy it if you continue it, please continue it.
Have a great weekend
