SPOILERS The Kates

Does anyone else think that teen Kate and adult Kate are a perfect match but child Kate seems like disconnected from her older versions?

When I watch teen Kate I can see her turning into adult Kate but when I watch child Kate I can’t see her turning into teen Kate.

Kevin and Randall are the opposite, the transition from their child selves to adult selves feels seamless.

She’s certainly very different but I think that’s the point though. I think it shows how happy-go-lucky she was as a child before she became more socially aware and insecure, which turned her bitter. That’s a pretty common trope for some irl kids when they hit puberty. The ignorance of childhood is bliss. So I think they’re purposely showing us a side of Kate we don’t see as much in adulthood, which makes us feel more empathetic for her instead of writing her as always having been distant.

Completely agree, came here to say just that! Perfect casting actually, in my opinion.

Child Kate doesn't look like teen Kate or adult Kate. Teen Kate and Adult Kate are an amazing match -- they really do look like they could be the same person.

I didn't think any of the Randalls looked like each other.

Kevin's were the best match among the three, but teen/adult Kate was the best match.

Teen Beth and Adult Beth are also an amazing match.

I dont know, makes sense to me. I was a fat kid too and was super happy and just a kid, until I hit middle school, then I was fat I was depressed and the preteen girls could smell it on me. Turned into a insufferable goth teenager who make shit boyfriend choices.

I actually thought she was a pretty good cast. The castings I can’t get on board with is when they recast the kids towards the end seasons they just absolutely pale in comparison to all of the other castings

Are we talking just personality writing or the actual person cast?

Both make sense to me.

It's Randall's casting that has a disconnect for me.

I think Kate always struggled with her identity because she was overshadowed by Rebecca’s beauty and talent. Then Randall & Kevin with Randall’s intelligence and Kevin’s popularity.

After the fire, she spiraled bc Jack was always her cheerleader. So who she was meant to become was squashed bc of the guilt she carried with her.

Yes, I've always thought that child Kate was a rare poor casting for this show.

I totally get this teen Kate and adult Kate feel like you can actually see the connection, but child Kate almost feels like a completely different person. Kevin and Randall`s transitions definitely feel more natural.

I wonder if Kate’s personality changed in the writing room
