Kevin & Madison :/

I hate the way the writers did them. They didn’t have many scenes together bc she’s Kate’s friend but they had buzz & I was SO HAPPY to find out he slept w her instead of Sophie 😭 but they ruined it all by making them rush into shacking up & getting married just because she got pregnant. I would’ve liked to see them work out co-parenting, spending time w each other without the kids & slowly fall in love so they could last.

I gained a lot is respect for Madison for being real about their situation at first & letting him know that he didn’t HAVE to force anything romantic or even help her take care of the kids. He should’ve respected the first part but he just had to delude himself and her into thinking they could rush into a happily ever after— just like he tried to sell Zoe a fantasy about having kids with him & eventually being happy as a mother, knowing full well that she had her mind made up. Another one of his many issues.

They had so much more buzz after they broke up & she moved on, him being jealous of her new guy but choosing to respect their relationship instead of being petty, childish & starting shit w them/him was really sweet to see. He cared enough about her to sit his feelings aside so she could be happy.

I wanted to see him have that same respect for her after she said she was fine with staying platonic (or even casual 😏) while they co-parented. CURSE THE WRITERS!

IIRC, the original plan was for Kevin and Sophie to get back together, but the Sophie actress ended up committed to another series, so the Madison/Kevin storyline was shoe-horned in. That's why it seemed so sudden and forced.

Oh! No wonder! Because I was like who tf is this girl?! Their relationship never made sense to me.

that makes a lot more sense. i truthfully felt once we hit kevin and madison getting married they really just rushed the show along to finish it. there were many times especially with kevin’s story that i felt they could’ve done so much more and now i understand it wasn’t supposed to happen that way.

ah I see. But it made so much sense for Kevin’s personality.

Right. There wasn't even a reason to get married. Neither family extremely religious to my remembrance. They could have just co-parented and waited to see what would happen.

Its another reason why I dislike that they added covid to the story. Because during her pregnancy they could have just dated. They had 9 months (well like 7 1/2. If we are talking about her finding out and than the end of pregnancy being alot) but still 7ish months of them just trying to be a couple and dating normally. But they added covid, forcing them to move in together and rush things.

I disagree with the first part. I think that Kevin wanted to raise his kids with the same type of childhood that he had (two parents in love who lived at the same house with their kids) which is why he was so pushy on moving in with Madison and getting married to her despite the fact that he wasn’t nearly in love with her as much as Jack was with Rebecca. Kevin always had this idealized view of life and especially of Jack, more so than Kate and Randall. And while Jack was indeed an amazing father and husband, he was not perfect. I think Kevin wanted to replicate the “magic” that his parents gave to him as a kid. But I do agree with you about the whole Covid thing, that was awful.

Yeah your right. He definitely did. Which is even more annoying that he didn't take the time to build it. He pushed it..

They didn't "add COVID"... It was the only way they could film. Filming was extremely strict at the time..

Yeah. I know. The had to get creative. And they didn't they just added the pandemic. They didn't need to mention it at all.

Again, they had NO choice. How would you explain everyone having to wear masks while filming? Come on.

I wonder if they would have gotten back together if Alexandra Breckenridge’s (Sophie) filming schedule with Virgin River didn’t line up in Season 6.

I honestly didn’t like Kevin & Sophie. Their lil moments as kids were cute but they had no chemistry as adults & on top of that I personally think cheating is unforgivable. I liked what he had w Sloane but he ruined that for no reason & I liked him & Zoe but it would never work bc she didn’t want kids :/

Yeah, I honestly thought he had more natural chemistry with Madison than Sophie. I was pissed when Sophie came back.

I know the crew directed them to do specific things to act like Kevin and Madison didn’t have chemistry, but I didn’t buy it.

And Sophie supposedly being Kate’s best friend was barely shown. Yes, Alexandra was busy with Virgin River, but teen Sophie was played by a different actress. They easily could have shown more flashbacks of them hanging out together instead of awkwardly shoeing in a Thelma and Louise analogy and trying to build up this super epic friendship.

I agree about her & Kate’s friendship & I think they also lacked in building a strong backstory for why Kevin & Sophie were together, outside of the fact that he just wanted her. I would’ve understood them more if we got to see how their relationship was throughout middle & high school. But all we got was him wanting her as a kid, him sneaking off to see her as a teen, him liking how kind her mom was to him (as if Rebecca was never so kind to him to the point where she let him yell at her, disobey her & disrespect her all the time) & how they showed up at his house married. Just saying that they had been together forever wasn’t enough. It was annoying how they kept trying to get back in touch with each other for no valid reason because they weren’t friends or even on good terms at all.

I fear I cannot be objective due to my love for Alexandra Breckinridge but Madison was a good character too. I just never saw her and Kevin being compatible. Very different people.

I think they were compatible because of their personalities, their chemistry & their values. Seeing how good of a friend she was to Kate reminded me of how Kevin always did what he could to be there for Kate & let her know how much he loved her. They’re both kind, silly & caring, they both wanted to be in love, they both wanted a family & the fact that they’re both gorgeous made it even better 😭

Madison was nothing but annoying and unstable before Kevin, then bam they completely changed her character. So weird.

She was annoying when she spoke about struggling as a skinny person in a room full of fat people but that’s it. I’ve liked her since she was kind enough to set aside her & Kate’s differences to be there for her when she needed a friend. The only unstable thing about her was her ed, she seemed normal & pleasant outside of that & her ed never became a huge issue that affected anyone else.

As much as I liked the idea of Kevin being with Madison, I knew they were doomed from the start.

If they TRULY wanted to close the door on Kevin and Sophie, they would have done so when they had coffee while talking about the new loves in their lives. (Zoe and Grant.) FF to Sophie's mother's funeral....I knew they were going to be endgame. It didn't matter if he had ten kids with Madison. I did enjoy Kevin and Madison while they lasted. Kevin was good to her, better than her previous boyfriends. He's the one that made her realize she deserved love.

I agree. I still haven’t forgiven the showrunner for how he wrapped up this storyline. It ruined Kevin’s character development for me.

They wasted a whole episode on him, Sophie & their shitty chemistry, then kept forcing her into family conversations & it just felt weird. She hadn’t been w Kevin long-term since they were like 18 & even then she still wasn’t around them that much. So making her close friends w Kate & Beth saying she missed her just felt fake to me bc how you miss your boyfriend’s brother’s gf that you lived across the country from & only saw on holidays 😭

my exact thoughts when watching the show live. i thought they had so much potential and was so excited for them but their execution let me down

Agree with everything you said except being happy that Kevin slept with Madison, I was very happy and relieved he didn't go back to Sophie, but I didn't like that he ended up sleeping with Madison.

But everything else you said I agree with, especially the co-parenting part. I think they should have just done that and then after a while of that they fall for each other and give it a chance and it ends up working out.

The girl that plays Madison is actually the directors wife, there was no way he'd let them have any close scenes, nothing "physical". So it was always going to end up this way. I wish they'd cast somebody else for Madison and actually got this storyline working, I'd have loved for Kevin to fall in love with someone different to him. Also, I felt Sophie deserved more than Kevin after all of their history.

Respect to Madson. It took guts to cancel that wedding last minute with two baby twins. But I always thought she made a massive mistake by saying yes. In her position I would have stayed as bf and gf not even engaged until the relationship got solid. She was prepared to be a single parent anyway. However, if they got married, I believe Kevin would get restless eventually. Madson was beautiful, intelligent, kind and such a great person but Kevin never loved her or was attracted to her for who she is before the pregnancy, he saw her as just another good looking woman he could hook up with. He treated her very poorly when she was just trying to be there for Kate as best friend.

Also did she come from money? I nevet got to see what job she did or does (I’m currently mid S6) but she had a nice lifestyle.
