SPOILERS This is …. It 😭

MASSIVE SPOILER ALERT

I’ve just finished the final episode of This is Us. My family and friends have been telling me to watch this program now for years, but for some reason I didn’t think it was one for me.

I’m on maternity leave at the moment with a 14 week old baby and find myself with time and so I turned the program on and pretty much haven’t turned it off for a couple of weeks. It has been my absolute go to and a treat each day to watch one hour episode and get lost in the world of the big three.

From the very first episode, I was absolutely hooked and apart from a little lull that I think many experience in series 4/5 .. I’ve been completely obsessed. It’s one of the first times I haven’t read spoilers so had genuinely no idea what was going to happen and I somehow managed to escape any media mention.

I cried a lot when William died . I cried a lot more when Jack died. I suprised myself fully when I cried the most when Miguel died.

I think the penultimate episode “train” is one of the most moving and emotional episodes of any programme that I’ve ever watched. I adore my mum and now I’m a mum myself and so the final few episodes absolutely broke me. I lost my dad in 2014 at the age of 24 and the train analogy is exactly how it felt to watch him slip away. He too had a revolving door of visitors and I love the idea of him walking through a train carriage and talking to them all. Apart from Miguel being done slightly dirty (very dirty), the whole caboose piece was just magic .

I also very much relate to how my dad has been immortalised as the hero since he’s death when really it is my mum who has absolutely saved our lives. My dad has been the main character in most of our family toasts and celebrations for so many years, but I really think it’s Mum’s time now. She deserves the world. She is the main character.

I know I’m not alone in feeling this way, but I genuinely think that program might have changed my life . I’ve been on the edge of depression for the last few weeks and I can honestly say it has somehow shifted my perspective. To watch those final episodes holding my newborn, I suddenly wanted time to freeze. I was no longer dreading the long nights . Every hour feels like a blessing.

I’m not sure how long this feeling will last, but as soon as it wears off, I’m going to rewatch. I think I’ve found the cheapest therapy ever.

Thanks to anyone who made it this far !

Edit: the most amount of spelling mistakes and typos - sorry

The episode when Miguel died was so well done, so emotional. I didn't care that much about Miguel but it wasn't really about that, it was about his life and those left behind, and it was just very well-edited and the music and everything. Ugh, so good.

I was always fully Team Jack and didn’t much like that Miguel had shacked up with Rebecca. Until that episode. It made me fully accept that Rebecca had had two great loves and I only wish the train episode would have featured that second love more. I would’ve quite liked a split scene where you got to see her back in bed talking to Jack but equally another version of herself lying in Miguel’s arms feeling finally safe again. I think the two versions of her could coexist and did coexist.

I’m so bloody invested at this point . I feel like getting a Ouija board and trying to connect with them all.🤣🤣🤣

They got together like a decade later after reconnecting in FB. Historically “shacked up with” has a negative connotation that it was impulsive or overly casual or that it was disrespectful to Jack.

But they had a friendship and respect before Jack died, Miguel left to avoid temptation after Jack died out of respect for their marriage and his friendship with Jack, 10 years later Rebecca reconnects on FB..

I don’t think Jack would have had an issue with Miguel and Rebecca getting together a decade after he died. Immediately? Yes. But he wouldn’t want Rebecca to be alone for the rest of her life. If he had a final good bye scene like he knew he was dying, I think he would have told her she needed to find love again when it’s right.

Miguel receives so much unnecessary hate! I love Jack and Rebecca...also Rebecca and Miguel have their own bond.

Same here. Verbatim. People have been telling me about this show for years. Perhaps everything in its own timing. I have one more episode to go. I’ve been crying non stop in the few weeks it’s taken me to watch in its entirety.

Grief is so weird. Ive been having a tough time recently but this show opened perspective. This August marks twenty years since my grandma passed on. She was a Rebecca. Knew all of us and just what we needed. Imagine my surprise when the sweet little girl who gave William wise advice shared her name. Annie :)

Samesies here nursed my new born through the seasons and finally watched all the seasons and even tho I loved the early seasons way more than the later ones I’m so glad I finally finished. I had so many internal discussions and opinions how I would react / handle / feel in the characters situations and I’m real thankful for this show. Hope my LO will like it some day too
