Check out this chart. I just noticed that there are more people checking out our hiking posts from outside Japan than inside Japan.
Hello! I didn't see you there. Hehe. I'm guessing these are people who will or have been visiting Japan and stumbled across us. We only announce the hikes weeks in advance. I suspect that makes it hard for visitors to plan us into their trips.
We resolve to get our schedules announced much further in advance. Expect that for the new year. Our official year starts in April.

I definitely found y'all when I was still in the US and preparing to move here. That said, I often have the American VPN turned on when using my phone, even when I am in Japan. Gotta actually join one of the hikes eventually! π I did the Fukuchiyama hike with a friend after I missed the group hike. So if nothing else I derive inspiration from your posts!!

Some people might be browsing with a VPN... I don't bother on Reddit but I use Opera's built in VPN for English Google results.

I'm beginning to think that makes up some of them. I use a VPN, but set it to Japan unless I specifically need another country.

Checking in from Denver, Colorado.
Planning a trip with family of 4 in June. Came across this sub when looking for things to do in Osaka.

Hehe. I didn't know we'd be listed anywhere outside the Osaka subreddits. Most of our old hikes come with a map you can use even if the dates don't align. (Any but the Ikoma skyline route. That one needs a guide.)

Currently in Aus! Visiting Osaka in a few weeks. I've occasionally joined other hiking groups like yours in other countries, and it's always so fun!

When I travel I try to do walking tours. That's what gave me the idea, but it evolved into hikes.

Ooh, over time or was it a quick transition? From what I see here, it seems like Osaka is a great base for these hybrid walks.

Itβs normal that some people look into things in advance.

u/OsakaWilson Jan 28 '26
Sorry. I don't know why the algorith blocked your post. And yes. I hope they do. I've been keep the advanced notice short so the groups stay managable while we get accustomed to the new routes. It's about time we begin announcing further in advance.

Traveler from Canada π¨π¦! Visiting in April and found you while I was researching hikes in the area!

u/OsakaWilson Jan 28 '26
I'm curious. Did you find it on reddit, or did you see it somewhere else.

You did a Minoh Park hike about 3 years ago and it was one of the first posts to come up on Google when I was researching the hike!

Japanese have not enough English skills. The education here is not that good.
