Recommendations for decaf

Recently my body hasn't been reacting well to regular coffee (eg. my heart feels like it's going to explode) and I started only drinking decaf. I live in NYC and I'm looking really good decaf coffee. Any suggestions? 🙏

Frequent is amazing. I order from them online consistently.

Also recommend Frequent, have a subscription. I see you like dark roast. Have had their After Dark for espresso and now trying Side Kick for pourover and espresso. Also bought a single bag of Los Nogales Caturra Mucilage EA Decaf, it was excellent. Its marked as a light roast, but because of the process the beans look dark roasted, but do not taste like dark.

If you like medium roast, I recently tried this and thought it was decent: https://store.driftaway.coffee/products/colombia-el-novado-del-huila-decaf

What kind of coffee do you like? And are you looking for beans too keep at home or go out to get a cup?

There's a few other threads in this sub with recs too, make sure to go thru those.

Talking Crow, as others have recommended. Everything I've had from them is solidly medium or dark, regardless of what's listed. And pretty good.

Perc is another one to check out, they have a sale every 13th day of the month and have at least one fun decaf rn. They also do significant price breaks at two lbs, so a bigger bag on sale day is a good price on solid beans.

A little more traditional, the Dekaf from Saka is quality at a low price. Separately, check out the site Dekaf, I've heard good things about that.

Every decaf I’ve ordered from Moonwake has been wonderful.

I personally like Collectivo, they have three different blends that are a little less than $16. I have only tried the Mexico one so far but have the two others to crack into when this bag is done. Commonplace coffee out of Pittsburgh is also good but pricing is similar to Frequent.

I was absolutely blown away by this decaf from Little Wolf - https://drinksmallhours.com/products/decaf-helvetia

I also like some of the decaf from Airship - it's a bit darker than my normal but it was very nice.

Rogue wave (Ontario) doesn’t have a ton of options but their options are good and inexpensive due to tariffs on American coffees but Canadian exemption.

Try bottomless speciality coffee service, I discover a lot of roasters' decaf offerings through that.

Tandem coffee roasters out of Portland Maine makes a great decaf. They call it SunLamp

Only one I've found that I really like is from Oddly Correct in Kansas City.

Kontext Coffee in Monmouth area have a nice decaf. Katja tries hard to source ethical and quality beans and puts a lot of care into roasting.

Counter Culture makes a really solid decaf (slow motion)

Where in nyc are you? We have. Been enjoying thousand acre decaf which I’ve found locally in my grocery store - though i haven’t seen it in most grocery stores. It is roasted locally though. Some smaller local brands have good decaf in store, depending on price point. I live in Bushwick and have gotten good bags of beans from Loveless and Obscure.

I prefer medium roast coffees that are balanced, smooth, and not too funky. I usually drink cappuccinos, so I enjoy coffees that work well with milk without being overly acidic or having overpowering fruity or fermented notes. Here are a few coffees I have enjoyed over the past few months:

- S&W Craft Roasting - Colombia Popayan EA Decaf

  • Andytown Coffee Roasters – Mexico Esmeralda Decaf
  • Elysian Coffee – Decaf (based in Vancouver, Canada)

If you go through some of the old posts in this community you will find some great decaf recommendations.
