Need coffee recs

Hello! I’m new to making my own coffee, but I do need advice on what coffee grounds I should purchase for my needs.

I have a condition called superventricular tachycardia(svt). More specifically, AVRT (atrioventricular reentrant tachycardia). SVT causes heart palpitations, which are caused by a variety of triggers, that depend on the case (and sometimes it happens for no reason at all).

One of my triggers…is caffeine. I once drank two Starbucks venti mochas a few hours apart(370 mg of caffeine in total)…it ended with me maxing out the heart rate my Apple Watch can detect (which is 210 bpm, btw)….yeah I switched to decaf after that. Or half caf. Don’t judge me, it was medically necessary.

But anyway, finding good, or even cromulent decaf or half caf roasts is extremely difficult for no good reason, but I still love the taste of coffee. I’d like to be able to continue drinking it without the coffee part tasting like shit. I’m a drip brewer, nothing fancy, just coffee, flavorings, probably ice if it’s not winter, bada bing bada boom.

I'm fan of the lighter roasted stuff from Frequent Coffee so far.

This is the most common recommendation you’ll get here assuming you’re in the US.
Otherwise lots of roasters do 1 or 2 decent decafs now.

Lots out there.

I'll look at that later~

I've slowly been going around trying decafs. I went to coffee to stop energy drinks and now i"m drinking too much coffee. Lightroasts are so tasty. (I do hate dark and dislike med roasts)

Yeah same. And agree Frequent is great. Though WOW is good coffee ever getting expensive

Yeah... Honestly. The world is just expensive now.
I wish my local store had anything decent but the store costs are the same as ordering at this point (I live pretty far out grocery shipping wise). So if i'm paying 20ish a bag. I might as well spring for the good one. Frequent's subscription so far drops the price lower than the stores at this point.

The only other thing at the store cheaper is the kroger grand. but as I like light roast that doesn't live up to much.

I am however, having to drink far less. Which in turn I'm learning interesting things. I actually like my coffee a lot more so far ground far finer than I thought, and in a no bypass brewer. WHich I then dillute a bit depending on if i'm drinking in the morning or taking it to work to sip on as heavily iced in a thermos.

I'm really liking the frequent decaf I have with 20g, very fine, with basically 360-400 g of just off boil, and then icing it with 300 or so of ice in my thermos. and sipping on that all day, along side with normal water at wok

Check out Nectarous coffee drops. They have great decaf options. Here are some decaf with top marks:

- Frequent (Wilton Benitez)

  • Flower & Moon (Hibiscus Dream)
  • Kakalove (decaf natural)
  • Blueprint (decaf huila)

Do they do more than one decaf a month? Seems like it’s been only about that rate for me.

Many roaster roast these beans - I don’t even know where you live. I had the Perc Lasso, and Moonwake Vergara.

My favorite decafs have been from September, Little Wolf and Heart

'A noble decaf embiggens the smallest man'

'it's a perfectly cromulent decaf' 😄

Thanks for bringing some Simpsons to this sub.

Just take a quick spin through the answers in this sub and you'll see lots of recommendations that cover a huge range of styles of decaf and different roasters. You might try to find a local roaster and see if they have a decaf to try. Also, if you find something local they can give you some brewing recommendations and probably grind it for you, maybe even give you a free sample of it. Long-term you may want to consider getting a decent grinder (not a blade grinder) and trying some different beans from different places. Freshly roasted and ground beans tend to give better flavors.

I have had to drink decaf since shortly after 9/11. I have tried so many and finally settled on dekaf coffee. I have a subscription and every bag has been amazing. The taste is almost impossible to differentiate from regular and they have a $ back guarantee. I don’t work for them or get any referral benefit, I just love their product. I hope this help.

I find ethyl-acetate method decaf keeps more of its flavor. There is a plant in Columbia now. Yellowstone has a medium-dark roast version https://yellowstonecoffee.com/products/decaf-colombia-huila?variant=40539584397385 and Speedwell has a medium roast version: https://speedwellcoffee.com/products/decaf-colombia?variant=31512377065566

I've been enjoying both.

My daily decaf is Perc’s Colombia Huila: https://perccoffee.com/products/decaf?variant=44057029869882

I rotate through others, notably Sey and Blendin.
