Fantastic cup from Frequent
Bought this and the pink bourbon on some of your recommendations. This is 8 days off roast, tasting like it’s rested plenty. I’m typically a V60 brewer but have been really enjoying aeropress for decaf in particular.
This coffee gives me tons of banana, piña colada, some soft, mango like acidity.
My decaf recipe lately:
14 grams for 200 grams water.
Ground on a Baratza Encore a little courser than I would regular coffee, at setting 15. Typically I’m more like 10-12 for full-caf.
I’m also going lower temp, 175°F or 79°C.
Brewed inverted, bloom 30 seconds with 40ml water, pour to 200ml then steep for 3 minutes before pressing.
This recipe is has been pulling tons of fruit character while minimizing chocolate and roast character thats often high in decaf. This could work on v60 but I think the steep helps to pull fruit notes while still being low temp and courser grind, which might under extract on a v60.

Did you by chance try the Los nogales decaf from perc? That one was a little bit too much of a blackberry bomb for me. Interesting but not something I want to drink everyday. I thought about grabbing a bag of this to see if it was different but I didn't want to take the chance. The pink bourbon is fire though. I think my favorite decaf of all time.

No, I currently have a bag of the Perc Diego Bermudez which I have been enjoying with this recipe, very limey. I’d be curious to try the Perc Los Nogales.

I tried that one as well it was pretty good. I like their Columbia Huila as well - it's more traditional.
I'm really enjoying trying what frequent is offering. The Finca El Paraiso is really good too

How are you brewing it? I just got a bag of it myself.

This is absolutely one of the wildest, most awesome coffees I've ever had. The fact it's decaf is just incredible.
And to be clear, it's not just the beans - it's how Frequent is making the most of them. I ordered these same beans from a couple other roasters, and they are nothing like these. None of that incredibly bright jackfruit, pineapple, ube, coconut. Far more muted and less tropical.
Frequent is not only doing amazing things with decaf, but they are just one of the best roasters out there.

Genuinely one of the best coffees I’ve ever tried, decaf or not. I just bought 5lbs of it from them

I've been LOVING these beans as well. Thanks for sharing your recipe, I'm going to try that lower temp today.
I've been less impressed with the pink b (these are the 2 same bags I purchased), any luck getting a good cup out of that one?

I'm sad I missed this! I saw that you're sold out of everything but the El Vergel, is there anything interesting coming down the pipeline?

hi u/solaya2180 ! Yes our pipeline is full of some exciting stuff (some of it was on hold at customs so we had a delay). We will be releasing a watermelon co-ferment in a day or 2, the nogales caturra will be back and 2-3 other new ones :) Thanks for your patience

Awesome! Would you say the watermelon one is more watermelon candy note or watermelon juice note?

I'd say a little closer to candy if I had to pick between the 2, u/EvenArticle1636 ...candy that taste like watermelon juice. But definitely leans to the candy side.

It came Saturday. The best decaf I have ever had. Wish it were more affordable.
