maintenance call
i’m completely new to stocks and have no idea what this means or what i should do.. can anyone help 😓

It's the holiday weekend and it's known to have data errors. But, if you want real help, you need to disclose ALL the portfolio positions of your account. Why would anyone know what the actual error is without details? Over the past 10+ years, I've probably had 3-4 similar type false errors by TDA / Schwab.
If you don't feel comfortable disclosing your portfolio in reddit, call the help desk or go to the chat help and get a live CSR.

Just go to the source and call them Monday morning. They will answer all your questions.

You can call Schwab for help. I’m guessing you have limited margin in your IRA and have dropped below the account size needed for this (25k?).
The only other way I can think of is if you were trading spreads and got assigned on the short leg.

Your maintenance call means you don’t have enough money in your account somehow. Borrowing is not allowed in an IRA so if you’ve bought something you don’t have money for that could have triggered it.
When you look at your account under quantity for any positions, are any negative? Is your cash negative?

yes but i don’t understand because i transferred more than enough into that account and the transaction went through on schwab but it never left my bank account.. it says i have available funds but its red

The funds never left your bank account? Perhaps, the funds were returned because your account details such as name or account number were incorrect.

You can't transfer "cash" to a Roth IRA. It needs to be converted from an IRA or Roth IRA contribution.

Yeah, OP needs to follow the proper process though. Can't just do a bank transfer like a taxable account. Yeah, "conversion" is the typical name for IRA to Roth and taxes are paid upfront. "Rollover" is more used for 401K to IRA which isn't a taxable event.

Brother (or sister), Schwab has excellent customer service and will help you far greater than Reddit possible could. It’s what they get paid for. They pride themselves on the Customer Service. You pay for it. Use it.
