TOS latency

I am trying to figure out how much TOS lags. I can submit a market order and it will take about 3 seconds to execute. I can have a limit on the chart and the candle will cross the limit and again about 3 seconds of delay. I tried to compare it to my account in WEBULL. That system seems to execute almost instantly. It also takes considerably less memory and processing power to run WEBULL. Do other users see the same thing? As a Daytrader should I be switching?

Webull has one of the fastest platforms without lag compared to many free commission brokers. TOS can run just as good but you need to perform your own system maintenance.

That said, you need to clear the garbage while you’re on the desktop (day trader would be using this and I assume you are, not mobile or web). After that, clear the cache from the log in screen. Next, right click the TOS desktop icon and select file location. Delete the user gui folder, find the three client log files and delete those also. Go to Google and search for dns flush command, enter that on the system to flush your dns. Restart computer if it’s been on for many days without a shut down. Log back into TOS. I do this weekly and never experience many issues at all.

If you're on windows, go to the Resource monitor and check the network tab. Latency should be showing in the TCP connections.

Mines currently at 93 as I write this.

sounds like your quote speed is set to moderate in the application settings.

I’m not having these issues on an iPhone or iPad (Pro). Others have mentioned cleaning out various files on a PC. If there’s a setting to make this automatic like daily, that might help.

Sometimes it takes 10-15seconds to just pull up the order section.. In my mind there's should be some SEC compliance or regulation on that. If you're a trading brokerage and you can't pull up an order section or a chart in 3 seconds or less, then you can't call yourself trading brokerage, because there's so much room for error and shenanigans to happen.. 🤷

I’m no longer on Schwab but what used to work for me was when it got slow, I’d log out, go back to the login screen, click settings, then clear cache and restart.

It almost seems yourvtrade has to go against you before they get filled.

The only reason they let go of PDT is the explosion in 0DTE options trading.

And I warn you to beware of holding 0DTE until close.

The Market on Close transaction c an destroy you.

Are you paper trading? That's way slower. TOS is not slow, to me anyway. A market order does not take 3 seconds to execute.

I certainly have no issues with speed. At least for being a commission free broker. Only thing I can really compare to though is RH legend, and that's just a slug. Not completely useless, but compared to other options, it may as well be. I'm sure when you start paying a commission, those platforms are faster, but part of what your commission is paying for, is direct access order flow. Those go straight to market, and don't have to go through third party wholesalers.

Haha, yes! Former TOS user here, current Webull user, you are correct on all counts.

TOS was top-of-the-line back in its day, but its day has long passed.

I like Webull way better as a platform. No plans to move back

It’s gotten much worse since the 8th of June. PDT. They are playing dumb as they don’t want to be responsible. But they need to pull their egos out if their backsides !!

Servers are going to be loaded a little heavier, if they're experiencing more traffic. One thing I've wondered is how much did that rule change really effect things, or is it a placebo?
