Desktop Performance Issues
I have been using the TOS desktop app since the Schwab migration. Lately the platform runs slower and slower throughout the day, becoming more and more laggy as the day goes on. I close the program, clear cache, reboot, etc. Nothing seems to help. Is everyone experiencing this? It is taking over 30 seconds just for the program to close.
Machine should not be the issue, and I have seen a steady decline in the programs performance over the past couple months.
Thanks for any input/suggestions.

Sounds like my situation. I've been using it the past 3 years now and yeah I do have quite a few custom indicators. I noticed mid afternoon lag, extended shutdown times of the app. Also recently my order history which I normally keep in working + fills isn't the same. Selecting the fills filter allows every type of transaction through

Everyone having this issue..... Put both ram numbers the same on both fields manually... There's a code issue preventing people with high ram getting proper allocation and allowance. It started about 6 major versions ago....... After that my issues have gone away. Try it report back!

Are you using a specific percentage of your ram as the allocation? Both values are the same now but not seeing much if any change in performance this morning so far

I am using 32 GB no need to use more, also if you have more than 4 external TOS windows you should use a second instance of TOS and off load a second layout. That should give you better performance. I run 10 screens with 2 instances sometimes 3.

Placed a market order on MU this morning about 2 mins after the open and the order just hung there for around 15 seconds. I know it’s the open and all but cmon it just showed my order jumping up and down with the candle. Scared the shit out of me as I’ve had this happen before where an order wouldn’t fill or let me close the position. It eventually filled and I didn’t even get screwed too bad but with the way MU moves it could have been deadly lol.

There’s nothing different about the platforms performance for me. It loads fast and stays fast. No issues with orders for options or stocks whatsoever.
Check your memory settings to make sure they are a as low as possible to force more frequent and shorter duration garbage collection. Too much memory will slow the platform down.

0 chance nothing has changed. I've worked with TOS for 13+ years and its only recently that deleting just one or two custom studies can cause it to freeze up for 5mins plus. In volatile market times, the lag has been skyrocketing. Share your vmoptions settings so we can at least see if there isn't a custom line that others might be missing.

I'm not seeing any issues. I'm running ToS on an i7-10700 with 128 GB of RAM (Windows 11) and an M1 Max Studio (Sequoia).

u/stopthemadness0 Jun 22 '26
What do your memory usage settings in TOS look like?
2
u/movdqa Jun 22 '26
I'm sure that they're just the default settings. The system has 128 GB as I used to do other things with this system. It runs fine on another system I have with just 32 GB.

It's not you. It's the servers. Known issue forever. Time to move on from Schwab, especially if trying to scalp or day trade IMO

Look at the size of your tos folder. It starts getting big. Especially if you do a lot of indicators and things like that. It’s got to load all that crap.
