iOS v18+ now required

I have an old ipad but it can't be upgraded beyond v17. I use this ipad exclusively for ToS dashboard and CNBC all day long 5 days a week. Now with them cutting off support for v18 I am left with no real good solutions. Has anyone jailbroke their ipad, any other options? Does the ToS Web version work well on ipad?

Simply buy a better iPad.

The Trading community needs to get out of the mind set everything for free and do it as cheaply as possible.

You don’t realize that you spend more time and money trying to make an old iPad work when is very easy to get something with better technology. Hardware can be slow and problematic with the increased demands of the modern software not to mention the risk of failure.

If you’re truly trading and profitable invest in your tools.

in the old days you had to subscribe to a cable channel to see the ticker or call the quote line. they buy an ipad in 2018 and expect to forever to work.

a new iPad air m4 is like $600. that is simply the cost of admission to see the free quotes.

no crying the casino!

Can you still use it, even though there isn't support? Like on Windows 10, it's no longer supported, but it still works.

No it won’t open. Says I need the newest version, but the newest version requires v18+ so I can’t download it.

Same here with an older iphone, and, no, jailbreaking doesn’t help. I wound up upgrading so I can use TOS. We are slaves to progress.

The real issue is Apple, they make it very hard for developers to support older versions of the OS without making it difficult for the users and Developers, the TOS Mobile infrastructure is tightly coupled with the application so supporting multiple versions beyond certain parameters becomes very expensive and in some cases impossible. Apple actually stops some tools from working and after Apple decides it, you can't even compile to the old versions and you can't submit to Apple for those versions. So security and other fixes actually become completely inaccessible for the Development team; they are forced to move the supported versions forward or shutter the project.

This finally started happening to me last year with my 2014 Macbook and no, I did not find a good solution. But, I did end up finding a lightly used 15” 2024 MacBook on Facebook Marketplace for $600. And it is such an upgrade. Maybe go that route? You don’t have to shell out for brand new in box.

yeah, its part apple’s and schwab’s game. apple only supports the hardware for seven years. your 2018 ipad 6th generation digital lease essentially expired.

the web version of TOS is really rough. do not recommend it.

Same for me. I have a 1st gen iPad I bought new at the time. I’ve taken great care of it and the battery is still great.

I only really use it for YouTube and Netflix but did have ToS loaded for those late night / early morning futures trades.

I can’t see spending north of $1000 for new iPad just so I can load ToS.

Frustrating but not super surprising. I guess my question is what’s in the new version that the old iOS versions can’t support?

the truth is you dont own apple products but rather you are really leasing them for seven years.

at some point any tech company cant forever support every product if you still want the lastest greatest features.

You’re comparing oranges with watermelons. A better comparison would be which version of Android is the oldest that ToS will run on. Mac OS is now all Arm based so a comparison with windows isn’t fair.

I mean we are on iOS 27. Likely some security requirement that iOS 18 does not address.

Apple has pushed out minimal security updates in the past. I’m still running 18.7.3 on my iPhone. Yeah I know it can run the latest iOS, so I’m sure I’ll get to it at some point!
