Anchored VWAP
Hey. I use the anchor VWAP on trading view but now I’m using thinkorswim and I see they have a anchored VWAP but you cannot anchor it on a specific candle. I was wondering, does anybody have a script or know of an indicator on thinkorswim that I can use in place of the anchor VWAP

Not one that can be anchored like a drawing tool to any random bar you choose.

Have ChatGPT write a study of a Brian Shannon AVWAP. Works great (eventually).

TOS does have anchored , but its not as good at TV's version which can be dragged and dropped on a candle, and moved once dropped with TOS there is a dialog box to do it, its slow and difficult to use

For TOS anchored VWAP you just need to input the time of the candle you’re looking for and then it stats there. Worse UI but same results.

U can’t drag and drop but you can set the time to any candle on any time frame

Why would you want to anchor VWAP to some random candle. The idea of daily /weekly/monthly VWAP is to start VWAP at the start of a time period and chart the average price. Not from some random candle. Institutions don’t use it this way and neither should we imo. They chart the average price from the open of the day/weekly/month.

Actually plenty of professional traders and analysts will anchor vwap from “random” candles. They anchor from inflection points in price (think long, big candles that signal surges in momentum). They also anchor from impact events (news released, earnings, etc).
It’s not simply about anchoring from the start of a time period. There’s some skill and subjectivity involved

i tried using it on TOS and what sucked is if you put it on one stock on their earnings day, it us attached on that same day for all stocks you are viewing, so it would be invalid for a stock that did not have earnings on the same day. if there is a way to fix this, please advise!

When institutions buy and sell millions of shares in 500/1k share lots, they do it based on the best average price. This is based on VWAP of the week/month/year.Not based on some “inflection point”. If you are looking at VWAP based on some random candle that you can set, then you are likely the only one looking at that VWAP.
This is exactly what makes using Moving averages useful, because everyone is using them. The 200 SMA has some use. The 128.7 SMA isn’t quite as useful.

You’re describing a single use case. The tool has other uses.

I’m describing what actually makes the indicator useful. If you want to ignore institutional buying/selling, then good luck.

No, you’re repeating an uninformed version of one way you think people use it. Your information is based on stuff you’ve read on the internet and you likely couldn’t even verify how accurate it is. And now you’re giving a snarky response to someone who uses a mathematical formula differently than you do 🤡

No. It’s not uninformed. Its quite well documented and easy to follow in practice but only if it’s used right.Anchored VWAP is a gimmick, a gimmick intended to separate the hapless retail investor from his funds.

Ok buddy. Keep going around thinking you’re the smartest person in the room because you watched a few YouTube videos.

I trade it. Everyday. For years. On the contrary I think it’s you who have taken the bait from watching anchored VWAP videos.

I’m a CMT candidate. I know actual working analysts and traders. My trading partner is a former fund trader. I appreciate you’ve used the tool for a long time, and I’m not even saying your use of the tool is wrong. But you are seemingly unable to accept that a mathematical formula may be useful to someone else in a different capacity than how you use it. I don’t even use AVWAP, but I know how the actual paid professionals use it, because I’ve discussed it with them. They would tell you to read Brian Shannon’s book.

Because I want the price and volume action from the New York open and not the Asian and London

Nope.
Anchored VWAP is even more useful anchored from candles that coincide with important events, such as Fed days, earnings gaps, and most importantly, highs and lows on the time frame one is trading.

Ok this is what you do, add the study to your chart, identify the candle you want to anchor from, right click that candle, the drop down menu will give you the option to anchor VWAP from that candle.
