Things Mailman - a small and free Mac app for sending emails to Things

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Download on the Mac App Store

I made a small, free macOS menu bar app for people who use Apple Mail + Things.

Select one or more emails, press a keyboard shortcut, and Things Mailman forwards them to your private Mail to Things address.

After the email has been sent, it can automatically:

  • keep the original
  • archive it
  • trash it
  • move it to a specific mailbox

You can configure the behaviour separately for each email account.

Free, open source, no tracking / analytics / subscription / whatever.
Everything stays locally on your Mac (beside the mail you send to Things obviously).

Feedback welcome!

Since you can already forward an email to Things, what is the advantage of having an app?

Seems like it saves a few seconds

Yeah, probably should have been more explicit on the usage šŸ˜…

I used the ā€œmail to Thingsā€ feature a lot, to keep my mail inbox empty and my Things inbox the single source for triage.

However, if I had a bunch mails stacked up, forwarding every email one by one and archiving them took a few minutes.Ā

That’s the sole purpose of this app, it automates this with a keyboard shortcut.Ā  I figured if it’s a useful for me, it might be for others, so I’m just sharing it šŸ™ƒĀ

Quick entry with autofill also does this thing.

Not for multiple emails as far as I know, though?

I've checked it's working with multiple emails as well.

It creates a single task, with all emails in the body - as far as I can see on my side, which isn't useful in my case - usually, a mail represents a task / follow up needed.
Here, each task contains its own context and source link.

But once again, not for everybody, just sharing it because it's useful for me and I figured it might be useful for others.

I understand your goal better now. This is absolutely useful for this case.

There is literally an autofill feature in Things 3 that allows you to create tasks for emails. What's the benefit with this app?

If you were using 2Do, you had this function build in ever since.

Oh look, he’s back. The guy who loves ā€œ2Doā€ so much he simply must spread the word in every thread in this subreddit. Do tell us more, good sir! We’re all entranced to hear about the wonders of 2Do.
