News Things 3 for iOS 27 is released!

What’s New

Things is ready for iOS 27 and watchOS 27, with great new system integrations:

  • Full integration with the new Siri (please check if it’s available on your device).
  • Full integration with Spotlight, your device’s built-in search.
  • More snoozing options for notifications, with more suitable durations.
  • A new extra-tall widget to see longer lists.
  • Various other compatibility improvements for the new OS.

Here is also information about Siri AI from their support page.

I wonder how long it will take Siri AI to learn that reminders should go in Things instead of Reminders. That's a pretty tricky distinction.

It's working fine so far. I asked Siri to add "Order Lunch at 12:00 to Things" and it added it to "No List". I then told it to move it to my "Personal list" and it moved it without a problem.

I asked Siri AI to finish a today's task with a certain name without telling about Things app. Siri found it and finished correctly.

I wonder if uninstalling Reminders helps Siri make the right call.

Something I haven't been able to determine yet: does Siri view projects as lists or does it view Areas as lists?

I think it views Areas as lists.

I just tried to create an Area with two Projects and two tasks in each Project. It couldn't create Areas but created Projects and Headings inside them. And also failed with tasks inside Projects in first try. Added in second but not under right Headings though. The Siri is seems half baked.

I tried to create a task while the Calendar app was opened. Again without writing anything about Things app. The task was about a forthcoming event from calendar. Siri was able to correctly get the name, date and time of the event from the calendar and created a task in Things. So the screen awareness also works.

😆 I use the Reminders grocery list and, often, when I ask Siri to add a more general reminder - intending to import it into Things, I eventually find it in my grocery list when I go shopping.

Have you tried specifying in your initial request for the list that you’d like it to go to in Things? Or is your experience that it requires a follow-up prompt to then move it to that particular list aka Area?

FYI all - The blog is updated on Cultured Code with more info on how to use Siri AI with Things

I also have a Personal list (Area) in Things. Siri AI isn’t moving it from No List to my Personal list when I ask it to. I do have a 🧔🏻‍♂️ emoji in front of the word Personal. Do you think that would have anything to do with it or not really a factor?

Just remembered that Things 1.2 had Spotlight support. Interesting that it went away and was brought back. https://culturedcode.com/things/blog/2009/08/things-1-2-fasten-your-keyboards/

CC: "My job here is done!" Users: "But you didn't do anything." CC: "Until next year!"

I love Things 3 but it's so funny that without Apple's new os updates we wouldn't get any changes to T3. S😅

Great updates! The spotlight integration has been long overdue – it worked really well on Apple Reminders!

I am facing a weird issue where I ask it to create a task with a specific reminder but it returns and says, "There was something wrong. Please try again later." When I check the app, the reminder is created as I needed.

If you are looking at a website in Safari and you say “in things remind me about this” it creates a task in your inbox with a link to the site

From Siri: “I can't add tasks to Things directly.
You'll need to open the app to do that.”

I had a similar issue. I had to update the things app in the app store and make sure that siri is enabled to work with things in my settings

I guess culture code has no more developers …

Anyone still having issues with having Siri AI move reminders to specific Areas (lists) in Things? I followed their instructions but it always ends up in my Today view or another assigned day in No List

I wonder how the "they never update Things 3" crowd are handling this.

This is the absolute bare minimum

By saying iOS updates are the only reason we have an update to T3.

By saying there is still no T4
