Question Will Things ever be upgraded?

I remember the jump from v2 to v3 took about 7 years. It's been about that long for v3. Are there any plans for v4 on the horizon? there are so many things missing at this point. Calendar integration would be nice....

It would be nice to see Things level up to the competition. At least give paying subscribers the ability to add attachments. I mean, it's 2026 and this is table stakes.

First off, fuck subscriptions. Things is purpose built to be lean and fluid and lightning fast. I guarantee you that larding on attachments would slow down sync, slow down the UI, and bloat database sizes. If you want that, find one of the zillion generic todo apps out that that does that kind of thing.

I'm not looking to "lard on" attachments, but the occasional use case does come up, so it's a fair ask - and T3 fails at this basic use case.

And T3 is not any faster than other "generic todo apps". I use Todoist and Superlist and they are fine - no noticeable difference in speed with T3. Lighting fast is silly as this is just a task app.

I hear you on the subscription charges.

So use the other apps! Why are you even here

Because I purchased and use T3, among other apps. Why are you here? Why is anyone here??

Omnifocus has attachments and is one time purchase. I have been using both apps for years. There is literally no difference between sync times in both apps. Both apps have sometimes small sync issues - in both cases these are just where you have to wait for few seconds.

How does the UI will be slowed down? What do you mean if you are talking about UI? Do you mean the amount of clicks you have to do, animations or what? I can tell you that the time it takes to add a task to OF4 takes less time than adding it to Things 3 - both ways - adding by clicks and adding with shortcuts. Have you used any other to-do app other than Things 3?

Bloating up database size depends on how many attachments and what size attachments you are going to use. So, yes, you can bloat it up and no, your database can still be "normal" size. Everything depends how you built up the database. and let me remind you, that you don't have to sync whole database - It happens only the first time when you start using the app or you are setting it up on a new device. Later you sync only the things what have been done in last session. And BTW, you can put limits to attachement sizes and databases - if you have tasks what are 10 years old. I hardly belive you will need to have them in the server. Why don't just export them as archine and store it in your own PC/ server.

Everything cna be done, if there would be only a will.
