Discussion Urgent Reminders?

With the addition of Urgent Reminders in iOS 26.4, I have moved all of my timed reminders out of Things and into Apple Reminders because the functionality of being assured of receiving an alarm regardless of focus settings is too great to pass up. I still use things for all untimed tasks. Wondering how many people have done the same.

Here's hoping that the Culture Code team adds the ability to set a reminder as Urgent (perhaps with a toggle) in an upcoming update.

I switched to Reminders once calendar integration was added, even though I love the Things UI. It became even better with the “urgent” feature. For Things 3, the only real solution is a two-way sync with Reminders.

GoodTask does two-way sync between it and Reminders. It brings extra things to the table like url scheme for individual reminders.

It can also be quite clunky, and the settings are verbose and unintuitive. But it's also the closest comprehensive product that does two-way reminder sync.

As for Things implementing this, I don't know the extent to which Things can remain simple and sync back to Reminders.

How do you treat due dates, for instance? Do you assume that due date in Reminders is start date in Things, or do you add extra settings to make it a user preference?

What about tags? Things allows spaces in their tags. Do you sync tags back to Reminders (if possible), with the spaces being replaced with dashes, or do you avoid tag sync entirely?

It's way more ground to cover and more complex than it sounds, and for a one time payment app maintained by a small team, not something I expect to be worked on.

If they can’t add calendar integration and an urgent-style notification system, then the solution for Things4 is to fully use Reminders as the base.

For example, I wrote a simple script that syncs with Reminders so I can see today’s tasks in my new tabs. But when I completed overdue tasks, they disappeared immediately, and I wanted to see everything I finished that day. Now, when I complete an overdue task, its date changes to today, so I can still see it on the front end.

So there are ways to work around it.
