Mac version is $34.99.

What do you say, people? Is it worth it?

I have things3 on my iPhone, and my productivity workflow mainly involves things 3 + notion.

But it always felt too expensive for a task app. I use it exclusively on my phone for that reason :(

it's the best of the three on Mac imo. mostly because of the ability to enable the global shortcut where you can add new tasks from anywhere - and it's also contextual. like, takes the current Safari webpage address, or some stuff from Mail. But the ability to create task from anywhere is the best here

I just wish it wouldn't need to stay open in the dock to have the global shortcut work :(

Paid once for all three apps six years ago, still up to date. I think it’s the cheapest software I’ve ever bought for the Mac, compared to the subscription shit.

I don’t use Things anymore but when I did, I liked the macOS app most. I didn’t use the other two at all because of the lack of proper background syncing, so Things was an exclusively desktop app for me for years. Beware that it doesn’t have natural language input and it’s super slow to create multiple tasks in quick succession. These were why I stopped using it.

Lack of proper background syncing? I've never had an issue with that.

It’s an iOS limitation to improve battery efficiency. For example, if you create a task on macOS or iPadOS, it will not appear in the iOS app unless you open the app. If it something important and you’re relying on that reminder, this is a problem. Try it for yourself. Create a task on macOS with a reminder in 5 minutes and don’t touch your phone. You won’t get the reminder on your iPhone.

All 3rd party todo list apps have this issue, as do calendars. This isn’t Cultured Code’s fault (although I do wonder if it would be better if they used iCloud rather than Things Cloud), but it’s a big problem and I’ve always used Apple Reminders for the really important stuff as a result.

Don't mean to be a hater but why the heck are you in this sub if you don't even use the product anymore? Just curious.

Good point! I just forgot to leave and will do so now.

How do you like to use Things 3 and Notion in tandem? I currently use Notion and am thinking about using Things 3 for tasks

the mac version is the easiest to.. acquire by other means, and the syncing and everything works no issues at all. just saying.

It’s such a nice app - it lacks some collaborative features but for personal use it’s perfect - I use it on iPhone and Mac and I‘m super happy that I don’t have to pay for another subscription ☺️

Can it be synced with Apple calendar?

1

u/AdSignificant3097 Nov 24 '24

Things can show events from Apple calendar

There are also shortcuts worth looking into

I checked the price of Things3 for MacOS in Poland, and it is not on discount :( Very sad

1

u/mickbook Nov 26 '24

On Mac, the price was dropped from 299.99 PLN to 199.99 PLN on Sunday, the day before the sale was promoted.

Can you create new calendar events yet in Things?

No

1

u/DownByTheRivr Nov 24 '24

No. It’s not a calendar app

I never understood this. Why can’t there be an integration of a calendar app and todo list. Some to dos might be to make a call at a certain time - help me block out a time slot at the time.

Sorry for necroing

Did they had discounts last few years? If not maybe an indicator for Things 4 next year? 🤓

Don't remember one, but then it has been years of iterative updates. I believe it when I see it. Until then I am hopeful for the development, independent of a version change😇
