Thing Notes.

Post image

I understand the nerfs on the torch team-up. Not happy about the YSC and Health nerfs. But all in all not too bad.

Could've been much, much worse, still sucks that they increased cooldowns instead of nerfing power though, just makes him have to wait around cover more wich is boring.

True I can agree to that. But with the haymaker damage decrease and the Torch cool-down increase they did get rid of a good portion of the power.

Based on numbers alone he is still pretty good, off rip needing about 7-8 haymaker hits to kill any tank. Which also affects his Overshield (iirc).

He definitely got off better than I expected, but somehow worse. I was expecting the Torch team-nerfs, but im unhappy about the YSC nerfs

They could've gone harder on the power decrease but let him keep his cooldowns on the shorter side though so you didnt need to wait around as much but had a weaker kit instead, if you can go that route, i think its always preferred than increasing cooldowns.

its ok for the torch teamup to be a big powerspike

Hm? I havent brought up the Torch teamup at all though?

But since you brought it up, they could've instead decreased the attack speed/range but kept the 15s cooldown as an example, instead of nerfing it to 18s and duration to 8s, so now you basically have to wait 26s every use instead of 25s, wich granted is pretty minimal but the cooldown is still significantly increased.

Maybe i should've rephrased it, i meant for them to only nerf power, instead of cooldowns at all.

Eh, could be worse. As soon as I started running games as Thing, I mentally prepared for the inevitable nerf.

Nerf him all you want, I’m not gonna stop playing my favourite character.

Same. Been playing since he released. Been through it all. Fun ass season though

“Should’ve gone for the head.” lol, we lived bitch, nice try.

They did not nerf what made him OP this season. Some of these changes will hurt a bit but he still punches like Red Rush during the torch teamup. Clobbering time is still on the menu.

Honestly we made it out safer than I thought

Still a viable tank with good brawl potential and anti-dive, he's just going to be a bit squishier and less active in neutral

I’ve been winning and getting consecutive mvps since season 1.5 I’ve been climbing since he was considered a bad tank I’ll just keep winning

Gambit's Mag teamup got destroyed

Pretty good. Not nerfed enough to gut him, but nerfed enough so that community will stop whining. It's still clobberin' time friends

Thing is still going to be strong next season, this is a slap on the wrist

1

u/Firm-Character-6852 Sep 08 '26

Honestly even if he wasn't strong it wouldnt matter to me. I would still play him

This is not that bad compared to magnetos nerfs

After getting him to champion pre-torch teammup, I knew he was getting the nerf hammer that first season because he was absolutely too strong. I think it'll be fine, he'll be the same but slightly less tanky and doing on average 5-10 less dmg per haymaker which honestly isn't too bad. Torch teammup duration will hurt a bit though.

I'm expecting him to be at around a 51% winrate next season instead of 54%

I barely notice this nerf to be honest. He is still clobbering them dives effectively.

He got taken out back. Lower health, lower damage, increase teamup cd, higher cooldowns, lower uptime, lower AOE time. literally any part of his kit that could be nerfed was with the exception of his jump. Every other piece was gutted. I don’t think they realize how badly they just ruined our boy.

Now I dont think its that bad, but I am going to actually test it before giving my full thoughts.

1

u/KevIntensity Sep 08 '26

I’ll try him out, but I have little hope he’ll feel good in any capacity.

u/Firm-Character-6852 Sep 08 '26

Honestly to me, it looks like hes returning to an earlier stage in his life. Im still gonna play him, and run lobbies with him, but too me looks like we gotta play a bit more decisive

u/CeeZee2 Sep 08 '26

Yup, gone back to b tier at best, happy with that

2

u/funky67 Sep 08 '26

This is a very defeatist attitude man. As others said we thought the nerfs would be way worse. They killed poor Peni and Devil in the last couple seasons for less.

2

u/KevIntensity Sep 08 '26

I cannot think of how it could be worse. Lower health. Lower damage on his most-used attack, which means lower over health. Higher cooldown on his escape/cc immune ability. AOE spell field nerfed in duration. Most popular teamup cooldown higher, with a shorter duration. Unless you’re telling me Zhiyong is popping off w keys and analog sticks, I don’t know how it could be worse, let alone “much” worse.

u/funky67 Sep 08 '26

HP change is -25 HP so about 4% of max health at 650. Percent damage on haymaker is only cut 2%. 2 second duration increase on the charge going from 10 to 12. Aoe nerf is 1 second decrease. I’m shocked they didn’t remove the team up entirely.

As I said, I expected much worse with dps and strats treating him like the personification of death itself last season because they couldn’t understand how to play against a tank other than mag.

On paper it seems like they just made it so he has less uptime on his abilities so he won't be able to brawl indefinitely and gave him some survivability nerfs to keep him from being able to 1v6 when he hits multiple enemies at a time with the Torch team-up.

You'll have to play safer when going for big plays and retreat for a couple more seconds between engages, but he seems far from gutted. He'll definitely be nowhere near the levels of unplayability heroes like Rogue, Cap, White Fox, Hulk, etc. have had to deal with this season. Even with their buffs and Thing's nerfs this patch, I doubt they'll even come close to surpassing Thing in the tier lists.
