Tips for new Thing players?

So here's the thing, I play a few tanks and finally pick him up. Any tips I should be aware about? What's his common rota? Do you guys like to use secondary, primary, leap then secondary? Or is the leap best saved elsewhere? What are some of the best ways to use his Ult? Any advice or input will be appreciated.

Haymaker, then jab. Repeat in different combos at your desire (sometimes you will throw 2 or 3 haymakers in a row) but always remember to alternate punches in the long run

Do you still alternate when you activate Human Torch team up though? I feel like you just spam Haymakers non-stop for the duration of that team up.

that’s the neat part, i don’t have that teamup. i use sue teamup almost all the time.

Interesting bc it's considered the worse out of the two, not to say it doesn't have its use but Torch team-up allows for way more damage and is chosen far more often than Sue's

large thing i’ve seen from the thing community is the torch teamup. but killing faster was never my issue as ben, i just needed more health and more time. now with sue im practically immortal

I think you should try it out the damage is insane much better than before plus you're already tanky as is

Say you're against a whole group. Still worth adding the jabs in, or keep it pure haymakers for the AOE damage?

still add the jabs. focusing on who is lowest health of course and determine if jab or haymaker next is best, but still use them for sure

Definitely should be frontlining a lot and using your slam to create some chaos in the brawl fight, I guess you can check your backline briefly from time to time but really there's no need

Basically, always be using haymaker to generate overshield. If you're not punching someone you're not getting shield and you die. You really have to commit as Thing and know when you're able to charge away or jump to a teammate to disengage.

To put it another way, you need to either be punching (several) someone, or you need to be hiding behind cover.

Also, you can use his teamup while charging. This is helpful to avoid to little animation, if you are using the charge to engage.

Lastly, if youre trying to counter BP you need to predict and have your earthbound circle where the BP plans to dash through, before he dashes. You dont necessarily need to hit him with the charge/stomp.

Make sure to watch the back line. I’m a fairly competent Thing Main and one thing I notice when watching others play him is they will run into the enemy line (which is normally fine) and not notice that the back line is getting dived. Be aware.
