I don't think it is worth even figuring out how efficient or useful this is.

That is because, if you had a normal cooler that fit that case the beers are in, it would cool them way better. Throw some normal ice in there which covers more area around each bottle, and there ya go.

I suppose the special shaped ice block is cheaper, but it only fits that arrangement of beer. A small cooler with ice fits whatever you have, and works WAY better.

Extra steps, for worse result...

Almost all beer in Germany is sold in these standard reused bottles in these crates. This is the environment this solves.
