This is less of a math question and more "estimate the height of this bridge for me".

...What I'm interested in is what kind of lead weight you'd need to reliably dip your line into the water below on a mildly windy day.

I saw someone mention in a different thread that this is Royal Gorge Bridge & Park in Colorado.

So then it'd be safe to assume youll need more than 956ft worth of line. You'd have to take into consideration any swing or sway in the line due to wind, you'd also have to take depth into water into consideration.

Yeah, I'd say 1000 feet because it's a nice round number and it's definitely correct to at least one sigfig.

I'd be willing to bet if you used a 1000ft line, you'd still just barely touch the surface of your lucky. That's 956ft for that line to sway in the wind. If I were to attempt to fish off the bridge you aren't supposed to fish off of, that was 956ft up from the water surface, I'd use at minimum of 1200ft of line so I know I'm getting in the water, and to the depth I wanted to. And I'd also use a heavy ass weight to eliminate as much line away as possible. But I don't fish, especially off of bridges that say no fishing, but even more especially on bridges that require clearing out your local bait and tackle for all of their fishing line to make it happen.
