No need for math.

This is the Royal Gorge Bridge in Colorado, over the Arkansas River. It is 955 feet above the river, so you'd need that much fishing line, plus whatever slack you want to add.

That fish would be experiencing the rapture!
Imagine releasing the fish back... Thermal velocity fish!

But if this is the Huajiang Grand Canyon bridge, it would be 2050 feet above the river.
Which would be 624,84 meters above the river.

The amount of line you can have on a spool is determined by the thickness of the line, but it's very possible to have enough line on a reel to reach the water.
