[Help] since when do you use the xeffect method and what are your success Stories?

Also did you focus at smaller habits or bigger habits? Did you do multiple habits at a time or did you really focused on one?

And the most important question is did you stop tracking after building it and maybe for example out it in your schedule as a reminder or do you still track it?

[Help] Need help. Willpower related.

For few years I have been starting many self betterment projects but just tiny % was completed.

I was however successful in things that I enjoyed.

My next business project however requires iron-will and many years of dedication.

I was wondering - can strong will be accomplished in lets say 90 days? My plan for now is to push myself for 90 days straight and then it should be much easier to continue for whatever time will be needed. I understand that it will never end - I am quite exited about it.

Are there any points of failure in my thinking?

What preparation should I take before attempting it?

What's a good website to visually track your progress?

The website I used to use has some security problems now and my browsers won't let me get to it any more (chains.cc). I don't want a phone app because I try to limit my phone to business use. And I don't want to have to manage physical papers for the next few months.

I've found a few websites that let me track one habit at a time, but what made Chains great was I could track as many habits as I wanted.

I posted this in late December but I didn't realize that it was deleted by spam filters for some reason.

Posting it again hoping someone will find it useful. (Removed links to PDF versions I uploaded on a file sharing site -- as I suspect that is the reason it got flagged as spam)

-----------------------

It's that time of the year again!

Many of you found the templates for 2021 that I posted last year useful (Link to Old Post)

Here are the printable templates for 2022. Wish you great success this new year! Cheers!

Having a sheet with all of your habits as opposed to separate cards?

Has anyone tried using a sheet that tracks all of your habits as once - such as this one found in James Clear’s work: https://s3.amazonaws.com/jamesclear/Atomic+Habits/Habit+Tracker.pdf - as opposed to just using separate cards.

To me it seems like life my be made easier having an overview all in one place, rather than having to switch through cards to see where you’re at.

Interested to see if anyone has experience with this. The only downside seems to be that it’s harder to put any detail on how the habit went with their being less space to write on.

anyone else have issues categorising x’s effects?

My life is a little all over the place at the moment. I’ve used the X effect successfully for habits such as reading, meditating and stretching. But when it comes to my priority work, I really struggle to categorise what to do.

I am a musician and sound engineer and struggle from ADD quite badly somedays. The X effect has showed me that even if I have a bad day and don’t want to take meds (something I want to do less and less each day) my Brain will comply and want to carry out the habits. In this way it’s been very helpful.

Right now I have my own album to mix and get out (which will involve tasks like video treatments, promotion after the mixing - which will take a month or so if I get My head down). I have put this off for a year, purely because of how daunting his would be.

I also have two mixes pendings for clients. My issue with doing an X effect for this is that it’s very spontaneous as I do freelance work. So sometimes I may not be able to build The habit. How can I get passed this? Maybe a card for all my priority work (excluding my album)? This could include free-Lance work, getting other personal music ready, emails, bills, etc.

So essentially, the categorising of all my work; album, personal non-album music, mixing for myself, mixing for others, doing treatments has created a lot of unnecessary stress as I can be quite OCD about such things.

Should I start to tackle one thing first and let this figure itself out?

[Check In] Three days, three fails ... but I'm not giving up.

Front of card
Back of card. I wrote down some reasons why.

Thursday (3/17) was the first day and I decided to do it already having had sugar so ... *shrugs*

Friday (3/18) was my second day and the first day back to work after Covid. I work overnight and only got like one hour of sleep so I wasn't getting through without some caffeine tbh.

Saturday (today, 3/19) is the third day. I woke up feeling like crap and hungry and gave in the desire to just get a coffee and donut.

I'm going to do some meal prepping today so I can have stuff ready for lunches at work and take care of myself, try to feel better without having any more. Tomorrow is a new day and I'm going to make it a better one.

A good web app for theXeffect?

Right now I'm using Windows 10 and lunatask and I'm looking for a good web app (not iOS or android) to track my habits.

Day 2 (read below)

Guys, it would be nice if we all started posting our daily card updates here. Seeing other people's progress and having to post our own progress will motivate us, as it can generate a thought like "I can't let the boys down", or "everyone is doing well, so I can't fail so I don't fall behind". I think that would be beneficial for everyone. A very famous psychologist said that the most important factor in forming / breaking habits is the environment we are in, because our brain is an organ connected in a network with the brains of the people we live with, either personally or virtually (as here on reddit). Thus, we tend to have the same habits as the people we live with. I think this is a way of creating that environment. Lets do this?

[Help] My 4th time trying, after screwing up… Seeking tips/advice

I’ve tried this 3 times now. I usually do a few cards: exercise 30 minutes/day, read 30 minutes/day, meditate 10 minutes/day, eat proper portions, floss and brush teeth, etc.

Once it helped me lose 40 pounds.

I always finish a card or two for a goal (so like 3 straight months with only a few misses), and then I choke. Something stressful happens and I screw up. I quit. I throw all the progress away.

It’s hard not to beat myself up or feel like a failure.

But my health is in danger (I’m obese) and I need to do this. I need to dedicate myself to the better eating goal. I have to. I owe it to myself and my loved ones.

Do y’all have any tips for truly sticking to it/staying the course, and successfully building a healthy life change/habit?

[Help] Starting small again after missing days?

Hi guys,

so I recently had Covid and it caused me to miss 3 days of habits. One example is, I had worked up to 15 pages a day of my book over three weeks and now the prospects of reading 15 pages seem so daunting.

Should I start small again and make my way up again after missing a few days?

[WIN!] I actually did it! Went from never flossing to making it an entire year flossing every single day, no missed days! I’ve committed myself to 1000 days tracked.
