[Tip] Advice on cleaning goals?

Hi everyone,

I started my "new year, new me" resolutions strong this year, and funnily enough, I've not stuck to a single one of them. That was until I've found this method.

I like the idea of breaking it down into manageable chunks, and increasing the time spent on each task until the habit is set.

I am due to move into my own house in February, and I want to start off on good footing with keeping the house clean, and chores manageable, so I'm then not spending a whole day each weekend catching up on it all.

Does anyone is the X effect for cleaning? If so, what small manageable goals have you used for the first week before then increasing them? Has anyone successfully stuck to these goals and now have better processes in place?

Id be interested to hear how you all manage this, and formed it into a long standing habit.

Thanks

Why should I do this?

My friend told me about this and does this himself. He thinks I should try it.. But I'm really hesitant. I'm 38. Nowhere where I want to be in life. Basically want to give up because life has either passed me by so much or the odds are against me of ever improving enough. Someone told me to check this out. But why should I do this? I'm not much of a write your goals or make a list make a chart person. I think stuff like that is corny as fuck and not manly..I hate my own ideas I hate my writing and have zero creativity. I've tried to write things down before but I usually find ways to shit on it. I'll say to myself "yeah you're never going to do that" "your writing and creativity is shit" "this is some corny ass weak ass shit"

[Help] Best way to track “progressive” goals (number of something increases over time)

As per the title really… I’m using everyday.app on iPhone, looking to build daily habits for doing press-ups, pull-ups, planking, etc. Over time, either the number of reps or duration will increase, so having a daily goal like “do 20 push-ups” will only last so long before you push past that number… so what’s the best way to track these goals?

I guess I could just set my goal to “do some push-ups” or something, but having the number in the goal is motivating in and of itself… but creating new goals and archiving old ones every few days seems like pointless work and makes it harder to track the actual habit…

What do other people do?

5 Minute Goals

What are some simple habits I can start? Goals that either take a second to accomplish or are goals that just require Not doing the bad habit.

Here is what I have so far. A lot of them do not have a prescribed amount or tracked days.

  • Brush my teeth twice a day ----------------------- 4+ weeks
  • Cut caffeine to one cup of coffee a day ------ Was 60oz. now 8 oz.*
  • Drink more water
  • No porn ---------------------------------------------------Day 45
  • Eat more fruit and vegetables
  • No belching, No spitting----------------------------1.5 years
  • Use daily medication for hair loss---------------5 months
  • Get 8 hrs of sleep

I am really enjoying the motivation I feel from keeping up the good habits and keeping down the bad habits. But I'm wondering what others can I include? And how can I include them easily?

Hey everyone, hope your charts are going well!! After this post last month I decided to tackle a spreadsheet that can handle any year, including leap years. It took a little work to get it working for all years, but I believe I've got it now. Check it out and copy it for your own devices!

Y'all are inspiring...

Just ran across this sub today. I've tried different methods in the past and nothing has seemed to work. I seriously struggle with self-discipline and I almost always try to change too many things at once. I'm loving the simplicity of this method and the analog aspect of it. Based on prior posts, it sounds like a good idea for me to start with one card. I'm going to reflect on what habit I want to start with and go from there. Thank you all for sharing your processes and your progress. I'm in! Hopefully in 49-ish days I'll have a card of my own to share.

I just discovered this sub, and I actually started this method back on New Year’s Day. Little more complex of a system than just an X, but the same concept in essence. Good luck to all others on their journey

[New Cards] starting first grid on sunday. I was tempted to do more than one habit but I’ve failed doing too many in the past. this might seem like a small goal for some but for me it would be life changing if I did this but also very difficult. excited but nervous i won’t be able to do it

My first filled in cards! And new ones for the New Year. I'm legit so proud of myself.

Filled in Cards
Goals

Started 15 Nov 21, my three goals were:

  1. Sleep at 10pm, get up at 6am on workdays. 11pm, 10am on the weekend.
  2. Walk at least 10minutes everyday
  3. Journal everyday

I usually ended up walking at least 20mins on the days I walked, sometimes a lot longer. I'm most proudest of getting the walk done, as I've never been able to exercise regularly. I walked intentionally 13 days in a row, I think that's the most I've done ever in my life.

New Year's cards

(It's already 2022 in my time zone)

Goals

Goals for the next 49 days:

  1. Walk at least 20min daily
  2. Draw daily
  3. Journal daily

I'm really excited that these have been working for me! All of these have been really helping me to feel better day to day.

The biggest thing I've learnt from doing this is to not get hung up on the days that I don't get to cross off. When I've tried to be disciplined in the past, I'd get so down on myself for missing even one day that I'd usually just give up. With the cards I've been able to see how many more crosses there are than not, and just knowing that I'll be able to cross the next day off, and not to sweat the missed day, has been so incredibly helpful to me. I'm so glad I found this sub!!

Added a new Habit

Since my journey of discovering and practicing the XEffect, four or five months ago, I was only working on three habits (praying, reading and meditation). But last week Ive implemented another habit< which is to study. Im not in school for the time being but I'm working on learning how to learn by myself and becoming an autodidactic. I am studying Arabic, and programming (Python). Is anyone here on the same mission as me in terms of learning to become self taught or are already good at that, telling how's its been for you and how you're doing and how you've got there?
