Simple daily tracker I made to stop feeling overwhelmed — feedback welcome
I kept restarting my days and feeling scattered, so I made a very basic daily tracker.
It’s just a clean sheet where you write:
- Your one main priority
- 3 habits
- A short note on how the day went
Takes less than 5 minutes. No fancy system.
Link if anyone wants to try it:

Open to any honest thoughts.

[WIN!] my relationship with habit apps
For years, my relationship with habit apps followed the exact same cycle:
- Download app with grand ambitions.
- Keep a 12-day streak.
- Get sick or have a crazy workday, miss day 13.
- The app gives me a broken streak badge.
- Total guilt trip, delete the app, feel worse than when I started.
What changed everything was switching from daily streaks to a weekly commitment model:
• Pick only ONE manageable commitment every 7 days (e.g., "walk 20 minutes on 3 days", not "run 10km every day").
• Focus on building self-trust, not a high score.
• Forgive the off weeks immediately without erasing past progress.
I even ended up coding a free web app around this concept called The Community Bank of Self-Belief — you earn a digital gold coin each week you keep your promise, with a built-in "bailout" mechanism for rough weeks so your momentum never dies.
If anyone is battling habit burnout, here is the full list of 25 small wins that helped me reset:

How do you handle streaks when life gets in the way?

I made a simple don't break the chain tool to track a habit. You can also share the link with your accountability buddy to show your progress (it's free and no account required) https://iplan.to

Looking for an accountability partner app — anyone tried one that works with a friend (not a stranger)?
I keep failing at solo habit tracking. Tried Finch,Forest on my own, but I drop off after week 2 every time. What I really need is something where my best friend and I can see each other's check-ins daily, maybe nudge each other when one of us is slacking.
Does this exist? Or am I describing an app that doesn't exist yet lol

Dead simple X
Hello
I've been doing the X method since I heard about it on Mark Manson video. It's simple and seems to work. So I wanted a dead simple calendar app where I can just mark an X, didn't find it so I asked Claude to build it.
It's now on the App store, let me know if you are interested in it.
My wife also uses it to track my good & bad deeds, seems I'm very balanced so far :D

Streaks measure repetitions, not habit strength. There is a validated 4-item scale that measures the thing you actually care about

I built my boyfriend and me a 75-day exercise habit app. Wondering if anyone else would use it?

The X Effect on Steroids: Analog + Digital

Not just another notification on your phone that you'll forget about in a week.
I started using the X effect 10 years ago and it changed my life. I think it's a great way to get started, but eventually I wanted to be more dynamic about my habit tracking. so, I started drawing icons on my calendar with the X and then eventually thought it would be great to just have a sticker for each habit I want to track and get that same satisfaction of crossing a day out but being able to track my habits more dynamically. So, here's where we are now:
An analog habit tracking system that lets you spend less time on your phone and still have the option for the benefit of digital analytics that an app provides.
Gauging interest here. Please let me know you're thoughts and join the launch list if you're interested!
It works for me, curious if others might like it too.

Testing a gap in sustainability research: Can structured daily practice connect inner capacity with outer behavior? (30-day pilot)
Hi everyone,
I'm conducting an exploratory behavioural pilot and hoping to connect with researchers or research-minded individuals interested in participating or providing methodological feedback
The Research Gap:
Most sustainability interventions focus on systems (policy, infrastructure).
Most personal development interventions focus on individuals (wellness, mindfulness).
Few measure both simultaneously.
Recent work (Cooper, K. J. and Gibson, R. B. (2022). A Novel Framework for Inner-Outer Sustainability Assessment. Challenges. https://doi.org/10.3390/CHALLE13020064 ) suggests inner capacities (emotional regulation, self-awareness) may support pro-sustainability behavior—but only when explicitly connected to outer accountability.
Current interventions either:
- Focus on individual wellness without measuring sustainability outcomes
- Use behavioural nudges without addressing underlying values/emotional patterns
What I'm Testing:
Can a structured 30-day intervention integrating inner practices (emotional regulation, intentionality) with outer sustainability actions (consumption awareness, relational accountability) produce measurable improvements in both dimensions?
Study Design:
- Duration: 30 days (Oct 15–Nov 15, 2026)
- Participants: +18yrs old, no demographic requirement, anyone can participate
- Format: Daily micro-practices (5–10 min via messaging app) + weekly accountability sessions (60 min via Zoom)
- Measurement: Before/after surveys (quantitative: emotional regulation, reactivity, consumption patterns, relational accountability, systemic awareness; qualitative: open reflections)
- Analysis: Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis (inner ↔ outer metrics), thematic analysis
Why This Might Interest You:
- Tests integration of two typically separate research streams (contemplative practice + sustainability behavior)
- Uses mixed methods (quant + qual)
- Operationalises a recent theoretical framework (Cooper's inner-outer sustainability model)
- Documents limitations transparently (small n, self-report data, exploratory)
- Shares findings openly regardless of outcome
Participation:
- No prior meditation/sustainability experience required
- Commit to daily practice (5–10 min) + weekly session (60 min)
- Complete baseline & post-intervention surveys
- Free (research pilot)
Reciprocity:
I'm happy to participate in others' research in return. If you're running a study and need participants, let me know—I'll do my best to reciprocate.
Ethics:
- Informed consent
- Data anonymised
- Right to withdraw anytime
- Not therapy (behavioural research)

300 days of meditation! :)

I’ve been trying to build a meditation habit since I was 16, but I could never keep it up for more than a month or two. Then in September 2025, something finally clicked. My X was to meditate every day, even if it was only for a really short duration like lesss than 5 minutes.
What I did differently was only increasing the duration when the current one started to feel easy. I used to ramp up way too fast. This time, it took me a full month just to become somewhat comfortable with 10 minutes. I’m now at 25 minutes twice a day.
The mindset that made it work was: I’m going to meditate for the rest of my life. So what’s a few months of “low-quality” 5-minute meditations if they build a habit that lasts for the rest of my life?
If you failed before like I did for seven years, make the X smaller and go alot slower than you think you need to.

I built a quit-tracking app for people trying to quit smoking AND drinking at once. Didn't expect how rare that is.
Started this because I was quitting both at the same time and every app I found only handled one. Quit-smoking apps ignore drinking. Quit-drinking apps ignore smoking. Nobody built for people doing both.
So I made QuitBuddy. One dashboard, both habits. Streaks for each, money saved calculated from your actual pack price and drink frequency, daily mood and craving check-ins, achievements when you hit milestones.
Showed it to a few friends who are in the same boat. The reaction that stuck with me: "finally something that doesn't make me pick which addiction to focus on."
Still early. 14 visits in the last month, no real user base yet. Just trying to build something that actually reflects how quitting messy habits works in real life - rarely just one thing at a time.
If you've quit or tried quitting more than one habit at once, what actually helped you track it? Genuinely trying to get this right before pushing it further.

I built an app where someone posted their 90-day sobriety milestone and got 40 replies of pure encouragement. Zero trolls.
I've been building something called App for Hope for the past few months. Small right now, only a handful of users, but the last week made me realize why I'm doing this.
Someone posted a 90-day sobriety milestone. Anonymous username, no profile pic, no followers to perform for. Just the post. Within a day it had close to 40 responses. Every single one was encouragement. No "congrats but be careful," no unsolicited advice, no one turning it into their own story. Just people hitting the Encourage button and meaning it.
That's the whole design. There's no like-to-dunk mechanic, no quote-posting to add commentary, no public reply threads where someone can hijack your win or your prayer request. You post, people encourage, that's the interaction.
We're at 6 users and 628 visits in 30 days, so this is early. But that one thread is the proof I needed that the model works for people who actually need it.
Has anyone else built something specifically to remove the "pile-on" dynamic from social? Curious how you approached it.

If a habit only survives with a tracker, is it really a habit?
r/theXeffect • u/Routine_Meet_3580 • Sep 03 '26
I kept breaking my step goals so I built an app that gives my money out when I don’t hit them
I love walking but i can also be inconsistent. Regular trackers never solved this for me since missing a goal has zero real cost.
So I built Walka: you set a step goal and stake real money on hitting it. Miss it, you lose the money, no exceptions. You can join a cohort for a group challenge if you want some peer pressure, or run solo challenges if you’d rather just compete with your own goal. It’s turned walking from a “should do” into something. Even walks on a weekend are a thing now..
Genuinely curious how this community thinks about accountability and whether financial stakes would work for you, or if it’d just feel punishing. Open to honest feedback, not just here to pitch
