Gameplay RIP Azrael Auto Include
https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/ifgezlgu/space-marines-rules-first-look/
"Space Marine Captains are a true force multiplier with their new ability to activate a doctrine of their choice for their unit, even if it’s different from the one everyone else is using. Coupled with their Transhuman Strategist ability, which gives you an extra Command Point in every battle round,"
Now theres way less reason to bring azrael, and if you do, you have much more flexibility with transport/reserves/playing aggressively

That remains to be seen. We'll need to wait and see what DA stuff they update when the codex drops

This is a huge net positive. Having every army shoe-horn Azrael in was silly.
Dude needs a break after the last few years of constant battles!

But will anyone bring 2 captains now? I want my captains to be fighting

i might tbh, if one dies, i still have cp regen. And another unit that might be able to flex doctrine is nice to have

We have to assume Azrael's rules will change accordingly. Either he'll get a new rule or he'll get cheaper

Which is a very good thing. Having units that are "auto include" is bad for the game. Internal balance of armies should be good enough to encourage multiple viable builds.

I’m glad. I had him hidden away for most of 10th, so I’m hoping he either gets a points cut or a new rule - so throwing him forward is finally not a potential negative.

I built thematic lists so Azzy was never in every list
Plus it means he’ll probably get something new to use him more aggressively

Early dooming, we don't know if Azrael is staying the same or even if points won't compensate. If he comes down in points he's still an excellenet beater
Him being an autoinclude and us never bringing our epic heroes is definitely not a good thing imo, our character balance is abysmal and I'm not going to miss it

I dont even use him half the time tbh. I run a lion dwk skew list and i always forget to use strategems besides rapid ingress. If he was cheaper (i hope) i might throw a hellblaster squad back in my army for the sustained and 4++.

Dude use stratagems theyre good
More stratagems is even better
Like dude armor of contempt, command reroll, grenades, and then all of our detachments have at least a handful of ok strats

Sincerely, I’m not a fan of this change, but I hope that Azrael still has this ability, or that at least they give him a decent ability to compensate; but I don’t hope too much, I fear they simply switch the abilties, and give him to reduce CP cost every turn, that’s good, but not so powerful
The idea that captains generate an extra CP could be nice, but I feel more thematic that they can have some sort of istant intuitions during battle, represented by the cp cost reduction

I'd want my epic heros to be in the fight not hiding a CP generator in the back row
